Inkscape Tutorial: Design a DJ/Music Logo

Create a logo depicting a vinyl record with headphones and flames.
This tutorial is for Inkscape version 0.48 and is intended to teach beginners how to use the software. Inkscape is a great free alternative to Illustrator and Corel Draw.

Outset is the feature I have been dying to discover in Inkscape.. thank you! However, when I do Outset, it seems to make sharp corners and such 'bubbly'. Any ideas as to why this would be?

Forgive me if I'm using incorrect terminology, but here's what I did to color it: *1.* In the "Fill and Stroke" box, I chose the gradient fill. *2.* Select the gradient tool (keyboard shortcut "G"). *3.* If the transition is not already vertical, you can drag the circular node and hold Ctrl to rotate it straight up. *4.* Your first stop (the square node) should be around the beginning of the vinyl record. Your second stop (the circle node) should be near the topmost flame. Double click around where the headphone crosses the gradient path. This should create a new diamond node. *5.* Now to _finally_ add color. Just click on each node, then use the "Fill and Stroke" box to change the color. *6.* Mess around with the color and positioning of the nodes to achieve a similar result to Nick's final product.

And again a great Tutorial! One question i´ve got, is there anyway to work symmetrical like in Adobe Illustrator?

Grab the pencil then draw a line. Then under *Edit* ---> *Clone* ---> *Create Tiled Clones* to open the dialog box. Select the type of symmetry you need, then adjust the settings as needed. (There are a ton! You should be able to easily find tutorials on these) Click on *Create*. If your drawing is still selected, you can start cloning it by drawing where you left off (there should be two nodes you can continue off of). I'm not sure the faster way to do this but: if you deselect your drawing and can't go into "symmetrical" mode, then select one of your clones. Then press *Shift* + *D*. Then use your pencil tool to continue drawing and cloning simultaneously.
