October 2022 and this scene is still the absolute best written scene on a television series! I remember watching this with my sister when it originally aired... Not a dry eye in the living room.... The complicated friendship that Sonny and Vinny still stands the test of time!

This is the best scene of any show on television, ever! I watched it the night it was originally broadcast, and I couldn't take my eyes off it! Gave me goosebumps! Part of the reason is the song Nights In White Satin. It brings the emotions home. When I bought the DVD set years later they had taken the song out and replaced it with some lame instrumental music. It just didn't work as well. Even Ken Wahl said that he didn't know why they replaced it. He and Ray Sharkey had great chemistry together, and it shows in the exceptional acting both men did. I have the entire series, but seasons 1 and 2 are the best, with 1 being the greatest of all.

The original scene tied so closely to the music, it still brings tears to my eyes. I remember watching this live, watching their friendship explode and the music describing it EXACTLY. I was 22 when this aired and it tore me apart. Unfortunately the money punks will never allow Wiseguy to be released 100% intact. The entire Dead Dog arc is unrecognizable without the music.

I just started re watching this amazing series. At the end, when Sonny and Vinnie are fighting in the cafe, I was looking forward to the dramatic emotional ending between Vinnie and Sonny with Knights in White Satin on the jukebox. I was very disappointed when the song did not come on, but some quiet music instead! I looked at KZbin and saw this video that included Knights of White Satin. I wondered if there was some kind of copy right that would not allow Knights to be played. I am binge watching Wiseguy all weekend now. BEST series of the 80's.

Damn. It's so Peckinpah (with a hint of Puzo) , in terms of the betrayal between two "friends" who come from the same neighborhood and have the same goals but they have different ways of going about it. It's kismet that Ken Wahl, the late Ray Sharkey, writer David J. Burke, director Rob Iscove and the series's co-creators Stephen J. Cannell (RIP) and Frank Lupo got this scene down to perfection. "Wiseguy" not getting an Emmy, albeit the show itself and Jonanthan Banks both earning nominations, is criminal.

The generic music completely butchered the scene. The song basically acted as a script. Without it, the scene is meaningless. Yeah, The Sopranos made me think of Wiseguy. It was sort of ahead of it's time. It might not have had the mafia character as the main guy, but Steelgrave was sort of a prototype for Tony. The bloody, ruthless mafioso whos still was sympathetic.

Totally know where you're coming from. So many 80s programmes were laden with clunky, cheesy dialogue. Then this final scene. You can almost hear the director arguing with nervy producers: "No, really, the audience is intelligent enough. The characters don't need to say anything while the song's playing. Yes, I know it's five minutes without dialogue, but if you look closely, the characters are actually still communicating."

In the Nights in white satin part of the scene, Sonny keeps his eyes fixed on Vinnie but Vinnie can't hold his gaze, looking away/shifting uncomfortably about 8 times. So although he says "I've made my peace, Sonny"...he hasn't..and actually never will, and rightly so.

If you were a fan of the show, and knew the characters, the scene with Nights in White Satin is one of the best scenes ever in movie or TV history. Everything just flat out worked in that scene. I just watched this on the Roku channel. They destroyed a masterpiece of a scene by not including the song, The Knights In White Satin. The weight of the moment and the emotional impact was all right there for us to see and feel. I remember being so moved by it and in this recent viewing feeling deprived of something so special. The series was great but the Steelgrave arc was the best part of it. Ray Sharkey and Ken Wahl had a perfect chemistry.

sometimes ... an exchange of glances is much stronger to express the feelings of attachment that one has towards one another ... as Vincenzo felt them for Sonny despite the fact that he was an agent of the FBI and that his final goal was for him to be arrested, he experienced strong things with him and the reverse was just as true for Sonny who considered Vinnie as his brother ... which only returned his betrayal to his eyes that more cruel and consequently its inevitable disappearance ....

The writers did an excellent job. For nine previous episodes we got to watch Sonny and Vinnie become friends, and then brothers. That's what made this scene so good. They didn't cram their relationship into 45 min, or a two part episode. This scene is raw to anyone who watched the series from the beginning. Sharkey was amazing, and the director was amazing for capturing it the way he did. As a 30 yr-old the 80's are not my era. I didn't even notice the song that was playing on the jukebox until I rewatched this scene on KZbin and read the comments. I cried regardless of the music, that's how good it was. These guys should've won something. It was a TV show for crying out loud! Who puts in this kind of effort for a TV show? Today's writers could really learn a thing or two, even from short lived unknowns like this. In fact, a lot of good stuff came from short lived unpopular shows. These are the jewels of Hollywood! This episode was so raw, I stopped watching the show. I don't know why but I couldn't keep on. It had to end here for me. Maybe later I'll pick it up again.

Off the subject of this scene the actor Jonathan Banks was tremendous on this show. When he appeared on Breaking Bad for the 1st time in '09 I told my friends that he was in Beverly Hills Cop and 48 hours, but they didn't realize it and thought it was strange that I even knew his name at 27 years old. Fast forward 9 years to 2018 and he's now one of the biggest and most popular actors on television.

It warms my heart the way they're fighting one minute and then they get up close together and look out the window like theyre still friends and later Sonny hands Vinnie his bottle to drink from .. lol . Then that beautiful song ...

Wowww, totally didn't see any of this romance stuff until now....I haven't finished watching the first season with my dad, and we're not to this point of the season as it is, but it hasn't ruined anything for me. Just kind of ... changed the way I'm gonna watch it. I'm a happy girl knowing this now, haha.

Ken suffered a serious neck injury in 1992! Maybe you know more than I, but sounds like he never recovered from the chronic pain.

@@ThirstyEye It was earlier than that I think but in a way it was his own fault. He fell down some marble stairs in the house of someone else's fiancée!! Said at the time it was due to a motorbike accident because he didn't want the truth to come out. Unfortunately KW allowed himself to be caught up in the "famous" trap thinking he could do what he liked as not constrained by "normal" standards. This even though he always made a big thing of he was only doing it because it paid well, could give it up tomorrow etc. Just a normal guy. And so on. He didn't leave Los Angeles though!

@@wolfieears1984 Rodney Dangerfield's fiance, it was. I'm sure he was embarrassed about the circumstances, but I do believe him when he also states that he did not want to bring negative publicity to that lady and Rodney. And one can slip on stairs anywhere. No, infidelity is not to be celebrated. But *where* this happened is not important.

@@ThirstyEye I'm not saying where it happened was important per se but I'm saying it was RELEVANT to what we were discussing. The original comment was that he "threw his career away" and you replied that he got a serious neck injury as if that hadn't been a conscious thing to do but some random bad luck. And I said it wasn't random as such but a result of him being somewhere he shouldn't have been, carrying on with someone else's fiancée (i.e. risky in more ways than one and not something someone with integrity would do). I love "Vinnie" as a character and I like Ken Wahl but he was far from perfect.

@@wolfieears1984 Fair enough. I don't know much else of Wahl's work, but I'd recommend The Soldier if you've never seen. Rather goofy action film, but some undeniably impressive moments. I finally watched Wiseguy this year, dug quite a bit. But in some ways Wahl to me will always be The Soldier 'cause that's what I first saw as a kid, haha.

A friend told me about zlvng station and I was lucky enough that on Thanksgiving Day 2020, I was able to watch me favorite Wiseguy of all time! Looked forward to this iconic scene only to hear some lame song at the end of Sonny singing “good love”. Told my husband “What? This wasn’t the song!” Searched till I found. Thank you logovo for giving this to us o see/listen to. I was 23 yrs young in 1987 and you made me feel that age all over again 🥰

(Google)....November 12 1987, mesmerized in front of the TV watching this scene. Initially attracted to Wiseguy as I live in Vancouver; first season unforgettable. Can it keep it up? Only the toes knows... Second season, Memorable. 3rd Season Meh. 4th season? In 1990 we didn't have a term for realizing your favourite show now sucks. May 2 1996 Reunion movie..interupted by earthquake after 5 minutes. Never saw it repeated.. (Glance at sidebar)....Watch? 16 years, That's a long break :)

wow, I haven't seen this since it originally aired, but the final scene has stayed with me all these years.. "how are you going to remember me?" and then them looking into eachothers eyes as the song goes "and I love you"... so intense, some of the best TV ever. Do you watch the sopranos? another great mafia show that makes great use of good music.

It was absolutely sickening that they took the original music out of this scene because it completely destroyed the entire meaning of one of the best television storylines/relationships ever - a story of brotherly love and betrayal. I got burned for $80 when I eagerly bought the DVD twenty years after this aired, waiting in anticipation for this scene, and was horrified at what they had done to it. There should be a law that they can't remove the original scores and songs and basically steal from fans.
