Impressive. For anyone who has never practiced this sort of form, I can tell you that a form of this length, done at this speed is totally exhausting. Most people practice CLF for its exercise value, and you certainly get all of that here.

Absolutely! 🙌 The intensity and complexity of Choy Li Fut forms are not only a testament to the practitioner's skill but also an incredible workout for the body and mind. The speed, coordination, and focus required are immense. It's great to hear from someone who understands the physical demands of practicing such a form. Choy Li Fut is indeed an excellent way to stay fit while also connecting with a rich martial arts tradition. 💪🥋 #Respect #ChoyLiFut

Absolutely! It's truly remarkable to think about how martial artists of the past had to rely solely on memory and oral tradition to pass down complex forms and techniques. The dedication, discipline, and mental acuity required to create, remember, and teach these forms without the aid of modern technology is a testament to the incredible skill and commitment of the masters of old. It's a humbling reminder of the rich heritage that modern practitioners are inheriting. 🥋📜 #MartialArtsHistory #Tradition

Thank you! It's always impressive to see a long form executed with precision and grace. Long forms are not only physically demanding but also require a high level of concentration and memory. Lohan, serious question. Would Neil Wilcott be able to compete on a high level in the UFC? I don't see how this fighting style would work in the UFC. Merely a question.
@Choy-Li-Fut-Kung-Fu

Hi Tedbert, what you are seeing is a pattern of movements. This is one part of the traditional training in martial arts. There are many crossovers between UFC training and traditional martial arts training. As for Niel competing in UFC, he has no interest in this.
@isabellawolgoth9447

The UFC protect themselves from war arts by rules. Arts that prepare you to maim and kill cannot be given a set of rules...especially if you are down to main or die, fight or die circumstances. I have never seen sword combat in the UFC. Why? The answer is: UFC is sport, not war.

@Choy-Li-Fut-Kung-Fu
@Choy-Li-Fut-Kung-Fu Жыл бұрын
Thank you for providing the timestamp for the slow form in the video. Starting at 3:06, the pace of the form slows down, allowing for a more detailed and focused demonstration of the techniques and movements. This slower pace can be helpful for learners to observe and understand the finer details and nuances of the form. Slowing down the form also allows for better synchronization with the instructor's explanations and helps viewers follow along more effectively. It's a valuable teaching method that enhances learning and comprehension. If you have any specific questions or need further assistance regarding the slow form or any other aspect of the video, feel free to ask. Enjoy your training and exploration of the form! 🥋🌟 #SlowForm #MartialArtsTraining

Learned 蔡李佛 (Choy Lee Fut), Taekwondo and Karate and I really wish we had some devices to let CLF's disciples practise their moves, pretty much like the wooden dummy Wing Chun disciples use. We can probably categorize the moves in any martial arts into: Attack, Block Absorb, and Dodge. As an engineer, I hope I can come up with some devices besides just sandbags to help learners of Choy Lee Fut (or other disciplines of Kung Fu) to practise the vast variety of moves, like 插錘 (Chaup Chui), 掛錘 (Kwoa Chui), 哨 (Shao), and other ones like 穿 (chian)、撈 (lau)、擒 (kum)、拿 (lah)、鏢 (biu)、頂 (ding)、撞 (chong) and the several kinds of kick. A robot that can be programmed to attack and defend itself using the various moves would be ideal for any Kung Fu practitioners to practise the moves, one move at a time. Otherwise, just memorizing the sets of moves (套拳) is good for public demonstrations but could be close to useless in real-world situations.

Just Googled the images of Choi Lee Fut wooden dummies and see some wooden dummies with longer limps. As Wing Chun uses short-range strikes and attacks, their wooden dummies might serve the purpose because short-range fights have limited mobility. Choy Li Fut features long stretches in striking and a stationary dummy may not be as realistic as a real-life opponent, such as another CLF practitioner. It's true that forms might not be 100% practical during a free-fight scenario; that said, being able to recite the various forms during practice not only is a good way to practise the moves (such as tiger claws), it would also enable us to use the forms during a fight, almost like reflex action, without having to consciously analyze the next move. Anyway, great recital with strength, agility, and precision. Thanks for everything!

If having a partner is the answer to your question, there wouldn't be any need for robot to exist in this world. There are so many instances where having a partner is impractical or impossible. If I need to practise 6 hours of CLF every day, where do I find such a partner at 7:00 in the morning as well as 11:00 in the evening? I am at the highest echelon in "black belt" CLF, where do I find a partner to challenge me? Since CLF is a discipline of Kung Fu with wide stance and long strikes (like kwoa chui - 掛錘 ), speed is the key to striking the opponent or your strikes will be blocked or, worse yet, the CLF practitioner will be struck first when your opponent uses direct short strikes (like 日字拳 - " 日" fist in Wing Chun) or a simple straight right punch in boxing. Being able to adjust the speed of the moves on a robot would be ideal when a practitioner of CLF needs to know or advance his/her level of skills. That means we could easily categorize the level at which the practitioner is by programming the robot to strike or block at a certain speed.

Ask a professional boxer, a jiu jitsu disciple, or probably a lot of Kung Fu haters and you'll be surprised how many people out there think Kung Fu's forms are for shows only.
@willwong1234
@willwong1234 8 жыл бұрын
Not that I AM really at the highest echoelon in "black belt" CLF, it was just a hypothetical question. Let me try to shine it in a different light then. If you are the best chess player in the world, apart from a super computer, where do you find a chess partner. That's what I was trying to say. It's just too obvious a robot is far better than a wooden dummy to simulate real world fighting scenarios. It's like the thousands of kung fu demonstrations we have seen that a sifu shows how you can win a fight with a few moves against a standing and motionless opponent. It's obvious to me that even a "white belt" disciple can show these moves because the opponent is holding his limps at stationary positions (like a wooden dummy). If the opponent is a live, well-trained kung fu practitioner, would he hold his limbs at fixed positions so you can use those moves to attack him? So dummy vs robot, your choice.
@willwong1234
@willwong1234 8 жыл бұрын
I think you've taken my word out of context. I never said anywhere that training with a flesh-and-blood opponent is not good and that I "always" wanted to train with someone at a higher level than myself. I am just saying that it is better to have robots designed to replace wooden dummies for practice purposes. It's like claiming that Wing Chun disciples ONLY want to train with a wooden dummy because they have a wooden dummy everywhere they get trained. No, they use the wooden dummy to complement, not replace, live opponents. The two "opponents", live or otherwise, just serve different purposes. What do I have to offer others? If I am the weakest CLF fighter in the group, I probably have nothing to offer. If I am trained to fight like a CLF pro, whatever means it takes, then I'll have plenty to offer.

If you can do this (at this speed) when your, 56, 66, 76, or 86 then more power to you. If not, then the form will have to be practiced in a Nei Gung (internal chi building) longevity fashion. Slow the form down to Tai Chi speed, put your mind at the Tan Tien, breath deeply into the Tan Tien when the limbs come towards the body and out when they move away from the body, in a slow, relaxed way and you will be able to do it at 86.

I don't mind you created the new forms but don't used this title to cheat the kung fu lover.
