Lois, I just happened to find your site today and enjoyed looking at all the variety in your index of samples, but finally was drawn in by your use of Perylene Green. Such a beautiful work! I appreciate your real time, slow and detailed demonstration style, and your close-up camera shots are wonderful. Hope to learn more about you as I treat myself to an abundance of this blessing during the shelter-in-place period. Take good care! Thank you, Rosa.

Lois, I've always been interested in watercolour but never had the time, or should I say made the time to try. But since the lockdown, I took the plunge and bought a few tubes of colour, 3 brushes and a pack of paper. I have to admit my 3 year old granddaughter is more talented, but I have you on my tablet beside me and try and follow your guide - thanks for the easy to follow videos, keep it up.

Great painting lesson. Thanks. What brand of Hake brush do you use?
@LoisDavidsonArt4 жыл бұрын
Thank you Edward. I use Pro Arte Ron Ranson hake brushes, I have a set of 4: small, medium, large and extra large :-) but if you are just starting with the hake, I recommend the medium and/or large

Lovely. I do like the very light dry brush on the background trees; very effective. Thank you. Do you decide on your colour scheme before each painting?
@LoisDavidsonArt4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Barbara, I do, however I only use a few different colours so it’s just a matter of tweaking the palette a bit. I wanted this to be very RR with the ultramarine blue sky, which I rarely use these days
@marybirder56634 жыл бұрын
@@LoisDavidsonArt Ron Ranson certainly continues to inspire many watercolor artist's and even beginners with the hake brush. I know he mainly used a limited palette, but loved how you added Perylene Green, one of my favorite color's. I am inspired by YOUR use of the hake (hock-ay) brush and your lovely painting's, Lois!

I've been having interesting results lately by limiting my palette. It seems like you use very few colors and that they're consistent from painting to painting. I hadn't seen you use perylene green yet. It was perfect. Do you have any ideas/ advice about using fewer pigments?
@LoisDavidsonArt3 жыл бұрын
Just use the colours that you like best and experiment! I think we are drawn to certain colours and paint best when we use those, and everyone will have different likes and dislikes. That is a part of developing your unique style

Lovely tutorial Lois . I always have pronounced the Hake like rake as in garden tool. You pronounce it as though it is a Japanese word. Is it?
@LoisDavidsonArt4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Barry, I was the same but once I discovered it was a Japanese word that rhymes with the drink sake, I’ve tried to pronounce it correctly, although I do forget sometimes 😊💐
