My friend had a mom with the same condition. Her 3 year old granddaughter lived in her home too. She used to hear arguments and would find that her mother and the 3 year old were arguing over cookies and candy. Eventually, they called a truce. They realized that they could get more treats if they worked together. They would happily watch TV together having snacks. The 3 year old is now 26. She's working on a post graduate degree. She remembers great grandma very fondly. She remembers that they were always together watching TV and sharing snacks. Lol. She had no idea anything was wrong with great grandma. Just remembers how much they loved to be together.

Too many people are suddenly thrown into the role of caretaker to their parents.Dan and his whole family are showing us it can be tolerable, the grandpa can still have some quality of life. Kudos for not locking him away in a nursing home. I recently did about 8 weeks in the "rehab wing" of a Nursing home/ rehab. Some of the stuff I've seen cannot be unseen and never should happen to our aging, sometimes severely unknowing parents/aunts/ uncles etc. God Bless Dan and family, bc you HAVE to be patient, and strong!🥰

My mother would not allow me too... She was stubborn & worked up until she passed the years ago at 72 yrs .. 😢 I wanted so much too but i think she had guilt over abuse we suffered occasionally in life. I'm glad she went home to be with our father Yehova

I don’t necessarily agree. People in his situation need constant, 24/7 supervision and care. Most people simply cannot provide that kind of time and dedication because they have jobs, children and other obligations. In the case of my parents - the were in no position physically to care for my grandparents by the time they were in a position where they could do so. Some times the best decision for their care is not to let guilt drive your decisions. There is absolutely no question that families need to participate in the care of their relatives even in nursing homes (especially in nursing homes) to make sure they get all they need, but that is often the best choice.
