I think he’s still the God of Stories, but in a new way, a more abstract way. He now sees even more than The Watcher does, literally connected to every existing universe, seeing and preserving every possible reality so that all their stories live on forever through him. That was a really beautiful way to finish the series. And the idea that all those branches now form Yggdrasil is perfect narrative symmetry. Kudos to this show’s creative team, I hope Marvel can stick the landing because this was a truly great setup.

Oh, he’s absolutely a God of Stories, but so much more than what we ever imagined. Considering how well both seasons turned out, I have to hope they have a good plan in place to for a follow up. Whether that’s a season 3 or movie 🤷‍♂️

@@OneProtagonist This feels like the ending to this particular story. I strongly doubt another season is coming. This feels much more like the direct lead-in to the next Avengers film if anything.

I don’t know if the video showed how absolutely tearful I was by the end, but everything about this had me.

Loki, like all the time-end Lokis, like Sylvie, has been trapped without free will, forever scripted to fail to preserve a Sacred Timeline in which others are the "Designated Heroes." No matter how sure he's born to a Glorious Purpose, He Who Remains has trapped him in a Loom in which he must fail--or be pruned, over and over and over again. His incredible drive to be a hero--somehow, even in the face of constant failure, constant pruning, constant elimination at the end of time--suggest how intense the reality of his NEED to be a hero is, and how tragic his fate in being defined out of free will. Sylvie and the end-of-time Lokis are very clear: it's better to die fighting for free will than to submit to a Sacred Timeline that forces you to lose and be warped and be pressed into a narrative function of villainy. When This story's narrative begins, he's brought to the TVA: the one place outside the Sacred Timeline where his choices can really be free and have consequence. This is his first experience of life in which he *might* actually become who he's wanted to be, who his gut has always insisted he was--the hero of his own story, not the designated villain of other people's stories. Given he first real chance to make REAL choices, he grows, and makes friends, and learns, and falls in love--with Sylvie/himself. He understands how he's failed in his previous life, and what limits that life placed on him. That's what that final discussion with Sylvie has driving it--he's willing to consider killing her (and to a degree himself) to "save the Sacred Timeline" rather than lose everything to the choose to come. But Syvlie argues that's in no way better than letting it all blow, because it eliminates all choice for billions. Loki included. And Loki realizes he CAN win, by writing a new ending that revises the script. He becomes a creating god, inventing a new Tree of Life by pouring himself into it all, Right now he's trapped. I would not be surprised if, at some point, he figures out a way to remain the constant theoretical heart of the Sacred Tree of Life while actually traveling its branches--so long as he's in contact with the Tree he's "on his throne." Until then he can see it all, care about all of them, pour himself into defending their choices. Sylvie may find a way to travel to him. And he will learn how to be the God of Stories, burdened with Glorious Purpose. He is the God whose first REAL choice upon being given real free will was to sacrice his future roles to preserve free will.

This episode was a trip! Heck, this whole season was a trip! I haven't been a fan of some of the other Marvel D+ shows, but this one stands above the rest.
