Let's goo, another micro four thirds camera. The format is so underrated
@artistjoh
@artistjoh 10 ай бұрын
I love it too. I think that when they went full frame, Panasonic assumed we would all jump ship to the full frame versions, and was probably surprised at how many of us stayed loyal to the MFT format. I doubt they intended to kill it off, but I think they thought it would die a natural death over time. People like you and me, however, love the smaller lenses and cutting edge features such as the new improved stabilization that eliminates wobbles on wide angles. These new features usually start in the smaller sensor before getting implemented in full frame. That is a big deal for me, because while the G9 series is too heavy as a regular vlog camera, there are times when the walking/speaking to camera need arises, and the G9 is the only camera with me.

There's so many benefits for micro four-thirds. I was only waiting for PDAF, now I'm waiting for PDAF in a small body. C'mon Panasonic give us a tiny GM1 sized photo camera with PDAF you know it would be awesome. 😂

The launch of the G9II is a significant boost for the m43 community. Recently, I've made a full transition back from Sony FF to m43. Virtually everything you can do with Fullframe can also be achieved with m43, but with less weight (which becomes increasingly important as you get older) and less intimidating to the surroundings. The video quality of the GH6 is impressive and fantastic to work with. However, compact and yet excellent cameras like the GX9 are pleasant companions for a day out. Naturally, the G9II (with its much-improved AF) is on my wishlist, along with the highly underrated OM5 from OM systems (420 grams). The latter camera is a hybrid marvel when it comes to both photo and video (4K and 120 FPS HD) in a small and lightweight body. Try capturing a handheld video with panning using a Sony (e.g., the zv1 or the a7c); it's quite challenging. The OM5 can do it, and, of course, the G9II can as well. Hopefully, Panasonic will continue to innovate and soon release a GX9 mkII and/or a G90 mkII.

AFAIK mechanical shutters are at their development limits, and we won't see any massive changes in performance there bar any unforeseen new types of shutter designs. Electronic shutter or global shutter are the future, and with the developments in sensor tech and in computational photography, that future is bright.

If you can turn the mode dial on the S5II body "accidentally" you might want to consider therapy. Because its so stiff to turn, with gloves I sometimes cannot get a good enough grip to turn it.

@@SMGJohn Yeah exactly... who's accidentally bumping the mode dial on the top of the camera? Its so stiff. I thought id miss it when going from my GH5 to S5 but then quickly discovered... you never bump it and even if you di, its so stiff you never move it. A locking pin on the top back dial where the shutter is set default would be a better dial to lock.

@@jockslifeatliftvideoproduc8528 I remember with Canon you could actually set the shutter dial to be locked unless you pressed the aperture button. I never understood the purpose of it because the grips are so big, but if you wear big gloves, it can actually happen you accidentally change it.

Thank you for the review. I shoot with all the underdogs - Nikon, Fuji, and Panasonic. I have a place for them all and really enjoy the Panasonic G9 and GX85 because they are fun to shoot with. I found during the very hot summer, the Fuji X-T5 and Panasonic G9 were more dependable due to recalls of the Z8 and that they did not give me heat warnings. I have the original Panasonic Leica DG Vario-Elmar 100-400mm and think I will get the G9 II for those sunny days when I want a smaller wildlife setup. I am also trying to decide between the Panasonic Leica Lumix 25-50mm f/1.7 and dPanasonic Leica Lumix 10- 25 mm f/1.7 lens. It is nice seeing you making videos.

Lumix replied to a comment about this on their insta. It's handling. The size balances better with their larger telephoto lenses. Considering this is being marketed for wildlife photography this makes sense. It's still a small body, lighter than the GH5 and much lighter than competing wildlife focused camera bodies and the true weight savings in M43 comes from the lenses anyway. Compare the Lumix 100-300 to a FF 200-600 and you will understand.

Great video Lok! The S5II has this weird bug with the burst mode where if you shoot a short burst, release the shutter, and press it again, it won't take any more photos. Any idea if they've fixed this for the G9II? Fairly certain they've still not fixed it in the S5II 🤔

G9 6k 60fps, new G9II 75fps ? @ 6K again ? External SSD great/auto focus great ! If it's 6K we need raw photos ! Same body so interchangeable lens ? Adapter ? S and G lens Adapter. Ports clean Great ! Lumix is running out of room. Less complicated was the suggestion so make another G series with more of a cell phone type interface. Cell phones are the KING ! 10k to one DSLR. Can the current Lumix people learn ? Time will tell !

Hey Lok, big thumbs up because your English is steadily getting better. I remember a time when your English wasn't as fluid and easy for you. As someone who has always struggled in non-English countries with the local language, I know how difficult it is when having to use a language that is not your first language. Especially hard as adults. Children absorb new languages like a sponge, but us adults generally find it more difficult. I am impressed how quickly you have improved now you are in Britain. Congratulations. I don't expect a GH7 for a couple of years, but I do expect a GH6 II within six months. I am hoping for a GH5 III, but I doubt that will happen. A pity, because I prefer it to the GH6 because of size and live streaming and the 4K/6K Photo. Sadly, Panasonic has a habit of removing favorite features from updated cameras. In this case I hate that the top screen is gone. I use that every day on my original G9. However the new G9 II is all the video camera that I ever need, and I did want 4K 120, open gate, unlimited recording times, and anamorphic support, and the new camera is now perfect for my needs and I will keep the original G9 for stills only shooting. It is a great camera just for stills. I expect you will benefit from a Mark 2 of the GH6, it is sure to get some new features along with the new phase detect sensor. I assume it will get the same sensor as in the G9 II. Even though it is the same MP as the GH6, it is an all new sensor, and doesn't have the problems like light streaks, that the GH6 had on release.
