Guns represent freedom at a very basic level. The evidence for this is evident in how many times the left has attempted to revoke the Second Amendment, the fact that one of the original ten amendments has been politicized to the level of Republicans loving guns and Dems hating guns is really sad, especially when you consider that the first ten amendments were considered to be the rights that you inherently have as a human being. Saying she "wants to be a lesbian" or "blames her family for making her a lesbian." Being gay or straight isn't a choice-- nobody chooses to be gay or straight. I'm straight-- I didn't choose it, I was just born this way. Just how gay/lesbian/other members of LGBTQ don't choose what they are-- they are just born that way. I don't know... your story seems a bit off, or might be missing a few details, because I don't think there are any actual lesbians who would say "I'm going to be lesbian because you say I shouldn't." Nobody wants their family to hate them-- or at least, actual lesbians don't want their families to hate them. Nobody "makes you a lesbian" just like "nobody makes you straight." So either you are missing some information from your story, you are flat out making up a story in order to support your anti-LGBTQ beliefs, or your niece is cracked out of her mind because no actual LGBTQ member believes that being LGBTQ is a "choice."

No it's not. I worked with a woman once who hallucinated/imagined farm animals everywhere. You laugh all the time, but then feel guilty for laughing and just want to cry. So you just switch off after a while and the whole process starts again the next day. It sounds weird, but it's sometimes easy to admire them a little bit for staying themselves when surrounded by all that crap for years and years. Definitely easy to sympathize with them.

The saddest cases are the ones who realize there's something wrong with them and who start those harrowing conversations with you. When that happens I am always just completely honest with them. You can't lie to them anyway. Plus that they started the talk in the first place means they trust me, so what would I be if I lied to them? But they are usually very good at saying no to things. I like people who say no to things. Many people like me get very condescending with the patients. I'm the exact opposite and try to see the world from their crazy perspective so I can understand it. I like it when they say no. Then we can move on to negotiations, and once I get them to do that I usually get voluntary engagement in whatever it is we're doing, and a better relationship with them generally. They know I'm not just going to command them around as if it's boot camp, and that has a calming effect. Some things I refuse to negotiate about, though. But if it's rare enough they never complain.
