I am not one to comment on these threads regularly, with that said, I am compelled to participate in the discussion when it comes to these guys. I have said it before and will NEVER stop saying it, this band has got to be one of the most UNDER RATED bands of all time! They are lyrically, musically, and artistically up there with the likes of the best known bands, both current and past tense. Let's be clear, I am not talking in a genre sense, I am talking "music period", and believe me, I have a huge swath of musical comparisons to draw from. I have be CONSUMING music since I was about 5 years old and feel very confident that I am making an accurate appraisal of this band. in this track Peter asks " am i good enough? am I good enough for you?" Why Yes Peter, you,Kenny, Johnny, and Josh are absolutely good enough! (okay Sal U2) all I can say is that this guy Fuckin loves you (no homo!)

I agree with your sentiment. I think their use of occasional humor hurts their chances of being taken seriously by a lot of people and most critics. It's like the band Ween. People focus on the 1 or 2 goofy songs on a record and dismiss the other 10 epic tracks.

yup. the qualities of Peter Steele as a singer are barely known outside the realms of the rock and metal fans. Which is a tragedy..'cause a man with a voice like his voice is a total eargasm... whatever music you listen to... Plus he was just brilliant (and ambiguous!) in his song writing: "Black lipstick stains her glass of red wine, I am your servant, may I light your cigarette?" "She'll be bleeding again, And in lupine ways We'll alleviate the pain" He knew how to tell a story through music and create atmosphere to go along with it.. rare qualities but the green man had them all.

I muchly agree! Pete took the lushness of the Cure, the originality of the Beatles, the heaviness of Sabbath and the anger of Agnostic Front and his own vast musical abilities, and alloyed them together to make a rare and valuable alloy called Type O Negative. Unfortunatly, no one else yet has been able to create such a unique combination, and most likely never will in this lifetime. He will be loved and missed!
@lawrencearansaspasstx43745 жыл бұрын
During the 1960's, when I was a kid, the radios were always on Rock and Roll. Some of the songs were sappy, some weren't. I was 10 when I heard "Somebody To Love" by Jefferson Airplane and I wanted music with a harder edge, and the negativity Grace Slick was singing about. I got into Iggy and the Stooges in '69 and then in 1971 got turned on to Black Sabbath. Damn, I loved that band and still do. Finally saw them in '78 and then Ozzy was kicked out in '79. I first listened to Type O Negative in 1995 when I bought "Bloody Kisses". For the first time since the '70s, I heard something impressive. In 1996, Ozzy Osborne came to the area and the opening bands were Sepultura and Type O Negative. This video is as close to seeing them, as they were back then, as I could ever hope to see. Peter Steele was a big dude, with the voice to match. The image of Josh Silver's profile, with his hair, is something that I can't forget. Back in the '70s keyboards weren't unusual for a band, then, '80s on, keyboards weren't seen too much. But Type O Negative wasn't the average band and Josh Silver isn't an average musician. Then Ozzy did a two and half hour set. I went to many concerts in the '70s, '80s and into the 2000's, but that was one of the best. I have really missed Type O Negative. "October Rust" was their masterpiece. Peter Steele was different because he had lived a REAL life. He had worked jobs, gotten his hands dirty and he had been through some of the same shit that hits many people, jail, failed relationships, addiction, ect. I know I could relate. As for the rest of the group members, they showed how much they respected Peter Steele and their class by ending Type O Negative.
