Irons also narrated an audiobook of Lolita. I thought he did a good job with it (barring a few mispronunciations of some French words here and there).

Nope, they chose the actress to be as attractive as Humbert saw her, that is why it was so easy for him to appear in love, that is why Swain became trapped in that type of roles, because she was effective as a nympho type of girl. The only thing uncomfortable was his desperation for never being loved by a shallow narcissistic and transactional creature that he knew was using him and felt guilty for trying to steal the man her mother wanted just to defy her authority, which ended in her dying

Jeremy Iron’s best movie is Damage (1992). He played a politician in a boring marriage who has an affair with his son’s fiancée. He is so good at portraying characters struggling with forbidden obsessions.

Everybody knows that, but Americans want to pretend that that type of girl does not exist in every generation of humas and tries to manipulate every person they cross the moment they see they can
@lolitax1673 жыл бұрын
he explained it very well about how this story isnt to encourage pedophilia but to shed light onto it. i think that the author is trying to show the readers how easily it is to manipulate us into thinking she was in the wrong.
@2degucitas2 жыл бұрын
Yes. Lolita has a very small chance at having a voice in the book. At the end she said Humbert had ruined her life. That and her accusations of him killing her mother are the only hints at how she really feels. The rest is his fantasy.
@cristianproust Жыл бұрын
This has NOTHING to do with a philia. He had no pattern of behavior in that respect, and Irons clearly says he was in love, which means he is an emotionally underdeveloped man who was lonely and an easy target for her because she evoked in him romantic memories of a distant past. It was not lust, it was a romantic feeling amplified by her use of intimacy as a mean to control him. Predators have psychopathic traits, they don't understand poetry, they have constant patterns of sequential predation and they use one victim after another through their life, who they see as toys; they do not randomly encounter a single person at the end of their life. He would only react to her, not her classmates, he would force her to go to school when she didn't want to. He could have her at home just for him, but didn't want to. His inner monologue would not mention any other girl in his entire life. He was subjugated by her as an adolescent would. Predators make what they do a sport, they care about the domination and the act, not the subject who is interchangeable with any other subject which is actually what Dolores does. Wherever she goes she has to seduce and manipulate. Her archetype exists in every school from really young age in the entire planet. That is why the rich old pervert was after her, because that is the kind of girl that nowadays would seek to get into the adult industry. They have no scruples and they have thrill seeking personalities and for them it is only a transaction and excitement. She manipulates her teachers and allures her classmate's boyfriends just for the power trip it provides to her. Pretending that is not common is puritan denial. The rich perv and her had an instant compatibility with her for a reason. Normal girls would be terrified of a regular adult, let alone that guy. But she wanted more and more thrills. She found Humbert boring, predators get tired of their victims and go for other targets, which is what she did. Dolores was manipulative, shallow, transactional, impulsive and pleasure-thrill-seeking. "I was not her first" was what he said. He was just controlled by her at every turn. The movie describes a weird scenario that rarely happens and has nothing to do with a philia
@cristianproust Жыл бұрын
@@2degucitas There is no need because we see her behavior. She was manipulative and shallow, eager to play with people as toys. Thrill seeking, transactional and narcissistic. Humbert was boring to her and only a pawn that she used when she needed. That is why he says "I was not her first" and she would repeat the same behavior where she went. When she said "you ruined my life", she was angry at herself, because she knew she wanted to take him away from her mother because she despised her authority, she saw her as an obstacle and wanted only an hedonistic superficial life. It is recurrent in the entire movie. Dolores appeared the villain but she had no moral compass, and Humbert was just too easy of a target for him being able to overcome her manipulation and weakness. It shows 2 types of personality that if they cross paths, would produce that result=drama. In any other reality she would have jumped from her tennis instructor to her teacher, stealing as many boyfriends as she could from other girls only to exhibit her power, all from a very young age. Her archetype is common in every generation of humans since the dawn of times. Only in puritan countries people pretend those realities don't exist, that is why in Europe nobody ever dared to interpret this movie as anything more than what it is: a little nympho creating havoc
