I love your videos but would find it really useful to see the settings under the photos you show. Especially on a lens like this it is not obvious if you shot at ƒ/1 or stopped down and what shutter speeds/ISOs you use.

Excellent as always. Picking up the 17-28 F/2.8 today. It will go nicely with my 28-75mm F/2.8 lens for travel. Cheers! I am also doing a series on the Z7II using the days in counting down to the Z8 announcement on May 10th.

Voigtlander lenses are very special. We really like that they do things differently compared to other brands.

Thanks, I enjoyed this! Have you thought of revisiting this lens now that the ZF is out with its additional focussing aids, might be easier at F1 now?
@GH-zs8eq25 күн бұрын
Agreed! I use it with the nikon ZF and dont fine it challenging at all wide open at f1! :)

@@GH-zs8eq Thank you for this, Im a Sony shooter, but Im considering getting a ZF purely for my vintage glass collection as the zoom in and focus peaking isn't the best on the older 2nd gen Sony cameras.

@@GH-zs8eq The EVF on the Zf is slightly better, 3.68M vs 2.34M - how much better do you find the EVF on the Zf compared to the A7R2? Im asking as I have no idea what that improvement looks like in reality? Is it a noticeable improvement? Im seriously considering buying the Zf, I want the indigo blue one which is currently out of stock.
@GH-zs8eq24 күн бұрын

I got the M-mount version of this lens and am using it on my Z w/ the fotodiox close focus adaptor. I'm curious about if there is any advantage to the native Z mount to this setup.
@brainz406 Жыл бұрын
Does focus peaking at f/1 is considerably not accurate ? have you tested it ? just curious about it. Thankyou.
@tomxaak7 күн бұрын
TLDR: I didn't. But I did test it on f1.8 and in my experience that's already unusable. Is it usable for you? When focusing on the highlighted / colored areas at that f-stop I rarely get what I need in focus, the focus peaking is misleading. Even at f2.0 it's still not very reliable. (Nikon ZF focus peaking). f2.8 and beyond sure. Only reliable way for me to get what I want into focus at f-stops below 2.0 is to zoom in 200%. Of course I'm talking real world use, not lab-style test focusing on a ruler.
@Lou-f Жыл бұрын
Could you compare against the 1.8 as you recommended shooting the voit at 2.8. Better price match too.
@graysofwestminster Жыл бұрын
Very different lenses, vintage vs modern. Voigtlander is absolutely usable anywhere between the f/1 and f/2.8 and that what it is primarily designed for. However focusing practice is required to be able to nail the shots at such shallow depth of field.

@graysofwestminster If you (I) are paying 1500 more for the 1.0 than for a "standard" 1.8, you (I) want to be sure that the 1.0 to 1.8 range is useable with MF... and what I interpret from your video is that it may extremely hard to :-( .

Hi Becky and Kon. Thanks for this video. Do you have a preference between this lens and the Voigtlander 40mm f1.2 for Z mount which you also reviewed recently? Other than the difference in field of view, do you prefer the rendering of one lens over the other? Thank you!

Just got my Zf today! I just mounted my Voigtlander 58mm f1.4 F Mount using the FTZ but the "Lock lens aperture ring at minimum aperture" message shows up. I see no way to get around using the command dial for setting aperture. I would like the ability to go full retro with my Zf and use lens aperture rings as you appeared to be doing in your video. Do these Voigtlander Z mount lenses make it possible to use the lens aperture ring or is there a setting on the Z bodies I am missing that allows use of the lens aperture rings? Thanks for your video, looks like a lens I may be going with.
