Leyland Titans were and still are lovely buses. Reading Transport owned 12 of them between 1979 and 2004, I personally think that they should've owned more of them.

Wow, that bought back some memories, my first year driving these buses around both areas shown, thanks for sharing.

My pleasure. I always liked driving Titan's, quality buses......

Titan's were simply the best vehicles of their time. Only issue was was it struggled up Dog Kennel Hill in East Dulwich. Same with the Olympians.

I drove Blue Triange Titans on the 185s and found that if you got a run and held them in third gear (rather than leave it in auto) they went up lovely. If you got stopped at the crossing then holding second would do it. But auto they struggled as did Metros, as they didn't have a multi gear selector. Happy days.....

Does anybody know where OHV 791Y bus was, "which depot" in 1996 thanks. Would love a fleet list of Catford buses from 1992, to 1997 if anyone has one, please. I remember 999, that's all, thanks

I completely forgot the 162 was run with double deckers back then. Now the route's run with tiny 8.9m Enviro 200's, horrible things that shudder, rattle and vibrate to high heaven! The Titans at Bromley and Catford were real workhorses and I remember travelling on the on the 1, 119, 138, and 208 in the 80's and 90's. Some displaced early examples were transferred from East and North London garages to TB and TL around 1989/90 and saw out their days handsomely. Even one of the early prototypes, T1131, saw action at Bromley for a while. I don't understand why they were converted to front door only with the centre doors taken out to accommodate more seating as they were fine as they were.

I'm pleased you enjoyed the vid. The 162 to me is an East London route, working off Upton Park with SMS & DMS's when i knew it, it seems strange to see it in South London. LT didn't convert any of their Titans to single door although provincial ones were (ex Birmingham & Manchester, although Reading's were built two door) and i assume the ex demonstrator was converted to mix in with other vehicles in a fleet.

I remember when I was a child preferring Titans to RMs. What was I thinking?

Do you know when the last titan ran in London?
@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus5 жыл бұрын
The last few with an ex London company (London Central) ran in June 2003. Companies like Blue Triangle still had them and used them mainly on rail but also on some TfL school routes.

we had mainly titans at TL .. then they brought in them low floor Alexander pieces of rubbish .

A bonus if the owners see the vid then, seeing their vehicles at work in times past.

I've shared a link of this video onto Facebook and into the Leyland Titan B15 fb page so it shouldn't take too long hopefully. 961 was painted into Green Line colours for a couple of years but is now back in 1980s plain red with yellow entrance doors.

@@MetroTitanD78 I have driven T 1101, it was a Blue Triangle bus for a few years. I recall having it on rail and possibly on the 185s.
