In this video we're diving into an article from The Telegraph and asking some key questions about what the Romans have ever done for us. And by 'Romans' I mean Sadiq Khan and by 'us' I mean Londoners.

@@gravemind6536 In Wales, the T1 bus route got new electric buses. The route is a four hour return trip, after each round trip the buses have to go back to the depot to charge up. I drove to London on Saturday. As I entered the Kilburn road, which is 20mph limit, a bus came up behind me. I stuck to the limit. The bus driver started tooting me. I was a bus driver for 21 years I'd won several awards for customer service and even got a local paper mention I didn't drive in London but worked for a company outside London and I left the job in 2023 because people since the 2020 event be it driving cars or boarding the bus have become absolutely ignorant, rude and at times down right aggressive and incredibly entitled. The company I worked for are 100% customer focused so every complaint received regardless of driver or the said incident leads to a disciplinary and 99% of the time they blame the driver because it's easier and saves face and reputation for the company. it's an incredibly stressful job and sometimes thankless job it holds a massive amount of responsibility. But people and the company don't care and treat you like garbage. I was told by a former manager years ago "you're a 10 bob bus driver and you are dispensable" those thinking about this career don't unless you like been dog doo doo.

I worked as a bus controller (bus inspector) for over thirty years in London (gladly accepted voluntary redundancy 2021) and that had become a very stressful job over the last ten to fifteen years! As far as being treated like 💩 by management I can tell you, controllers are seen and treated possibly worse than drivers are! Often we were “damned if we do and damned if we don’t”! Where we used to implement emergency diversions due to accidents etc, that was taken out of our hands by TFL and now implemented by NTC’s (Network Traffic Controllers) who “happened” to be on the other side of London when required!!! Meaning we had to “stack” buses sometimes causing many issues with driving hours, and knock on effects later in the day!

Here’s one for you: Apparently 20mph speed limits need a ‘Traffic Regulation Order’ or a ‘Traffic Restriction Order’ to actually be legal. If a road does not have this, the limit is actually still 30mph, even when 20mph signs are in place. It should be possible to check if one of these orders is in place… but so far, in London, I haven’t found anything concrete. It’s all suitably obfuscated. Police do not have the capacity to police all apparent 20mph zones and apparently they are self-policing based on road conditions (bumps, chicanes etc, read: potholes). This would be a good one for you to investigate! 😉

London had its very own routemaster which was designed especially for London by London Transport. Where I live they have times on some bus stops saying a bus will arrive at the bus stop in so many minutes. The last time I used a bus, 2015, I timed the arrival of a bus when it said one minute to arrival and the time was over 6 minutes until it got to the stop.

Totally agree with your summing up of Khan's character, or lack of it Geoff. Couldn't have put it better myself.👍

I was in Londonistan last week & caught a bus ride from blackhorse rd station to Ilford & it took forever as it stopped every 100 metres & i don't think it ever got into 3rd gear,it was rammed solid On another visit i caught the tube on the Victoria line & im not kidding it was deafening on this old crate of a train & the air quality was dirty & stiflingly rich in exhaust fumes, i thought to myself if id got an air quality meter & a noise meter to measure both im sure id have a claim against this Muppet mayor, i had tinnitus for the rest of the day it was so loud & high pitched.its a joke

It’s a shame khan doesn’t care about the air quality on the tubes then he does on the streets of London. Some of the tube trains that are still running are from 1972. People should start charging khan for the bad air quality they have to breath in as he is chairman.

Apparently London buses aren't insured by insurance companies but have to pay claims from their own cash reserves. Accidents are investigated internally by the bus company so there's no conflict of interest there obviously... 🙄

Yes. One thing is and has improved, he is building houses for his moslems friends, so he can import more of them to Londondstan. Good luck to any native British person living there.

Asylum seekers (migrants) get a National Insurance number as soon as they get here plus an NHS number. If they come from a Commonwealth country they also get a Voter registration number for good measure! Not sure at this point if they get free London travel cards from Mr Khan but nothing surprises me any more about the insanity of my country.

I avoid London at all times if possible. It is one of my least favourite cities. There's nothing about it I like. Unfortunately, most UK cities are following the same path to hell in a wheelbarrow as London.

I worked in London for the whole of 2014, Geoff. Never even considered driving down there from North Norfolk (where I've lived since 2000). I took the train! Rented a flat in Kentish Town, and got to and from my office (behind Selfridges - which they didn't) by Tube and bus. The buses that took me from Bond Street to Tottenham Court Road tube, were hybrids. Silent from a standing start, then the diesel engine kicked in after a few seconds. Bonkers. I grew up in West London, and I escaped the Metropolis in 1972. Never looked back. Very best of luck on the Benidorm challenge, which I have no doubt you will win. You better, 'cos I want to see EVs consigned to the dustbin of history,as they deserve to be. Les, Norfolk
