Once more, a nice ride. Interesting, as an ex-Londoner, to note how the building layout tells you so much. All the flat-top block buildings have no chimneys. The buildings with pointed rooves have chimneys and are therefore built pre-2nd. World War. In the 1950's the L.C.C. banned coal fires in all dwellings in Greater London and 7 million houses stopped burning coal and the Fog and Smog which was such a killer, back in the day, disappeared overnight. The later generations had no idea how bad those Peasoupers actually were. I remember in 1949, pushing my bike across London Bridge for safety reasons and walked beside a bus with the bus conductor actually walking ahead of the bus with a lighted candle.! London today is smog-free and a beautiful place to see and visit.

Yes, very annoying. If you listen carefully you can hear her bemoaning the fact that she cannot slap her daughter like she can in Jamaica.

Wood Green High Street (Cheapside) looks deserted compared to when I was growing up there in the Seventies. I see shops with the shutters down. Unthinkable back then. prime retail frontage. The future looks bleak, boring, vanilla, meh.

It's true that some of the "quality" shops have gone - e.g. M&S, BHS, Pearsons. However, it is still very busy. The shutters are down on some shops because it is the 0900 hour. The main difference over recent years is the large amount of Turkish restaurants that have opened. They are very popular.
