I was in corporate world 30 years. Retired last year. Kids grew up long ago. Wished i had spent more meaningful time with them as you do with yours. We still had great vacations, but work always got in the way. Mostly worked 50 to 60 hours a week. Also had to travel. Looking back....i should have walked away from that job. It sucked the life out of me.

It’s such a battle to think the right thing at times. At my best in my professional career, the sky was the limit as my upward trajectory was very clear. But when we decided to put family first, we know that it would come at a cost. We were ok and realized that career dreams and family greatness was not a duality. At least for me... We made our decision without regrets, the kids are happy and I am experiencing our kids while they are still under our roof. I love it and won’t trade it for anything. There are challenges, but everyday is more worth it. All the best ! Will

you havent made mistake you contributed to society and thank you for doing so. People that so call "drop out" of society never do. They still use roads and shops and theatres and museums that are run by individuals who have not dropped out. Who do they think pilots the transport that they use to get from town to town . Not people that have dropped out , thats for sure. It a selfish way of life, and the only respect should be for people that do really drop out , and they are the ones that live on a desert island , with no internet , sewage, hospitals , electric etc etc. Just think at the moment of all the medical staff the world over dealing with the pandemic. If they had all gone walkabout , where would we all be now? Next time you make a doctors appointment for yourself or your family, just be happy that they didnt all, give it all up and selfishly do their own thing .

We only got to go to London for one week before we went to Spain I must say I did not expect to love it as much as we did. We stayed in an Airbnb about a 30 minute walk to all the museums. It was called Mary Lebone neighborhood. It was AMAZING! Very lively, people from all over the world. It was a working class neighborhood with restaurants, shopping, etc...not a lot of tourist in that neighborhood and I could see myself living there for a while. We will go back when we can to explore more. One week was not enough lol. Enjoy!

It was so much fun. Every morning the Italian restaurant would pull out the chairs onto the sidewalks like all the other places and then the Italian music would start. The neighborhood has food from the middle east, Asia, South America, USA, eastern European and so forth. I don't recommend driving...traffic was horrible but to walk it was great. I wanted to ask where you parked your RV? My husband was asking and I didn't know. You are JUST like me...you see a boat and you thinkg "hmm maybe I can live on that lol" I'm always looking at alternative ways of living. I'm checking out cruise ships to retire after seeing that one older woman who retired on one after a lifetime of cruising. They say it's less expensive than assistant living :) I've never been on a cruise but doing my homework so we can try one next year :) If we like it, it may be our new way of travel.

keep your backpack as light as possable, don't walk to fast or far, keep your boots tied tight so that your feet don't move around in them, don't worry about finding a place to sleep there are lots of places,relax ,chillout, soak it up,open up to your fellow hikers and listen to them,share your life experences and injoy the magic of "THE WAY" Bueon Camino.

Don't do it girl! Londoner here, loved London all my life, until about 10 years ago and now planning my escape. Like every Megapolis, it's too expensive, too busy, less civil, and intent on keeping the upward 'distribution' of wealth. If the public services worked well and corporations and employers didn;t take the piss, then I would give the two thumbs up, but after Brexit, if you have the option, Europe or Australia would be where I'd look to explore. Also, have you tried North of the Border...?

Sometimes, once you've got to a certain point, you just have to lift a middle digit to pointless toil, in my case the kids were old enough to stand a bit of privation and I binned working in an engineering office to go freelance landscaping, not been late once since, I dictate holidays, and haven't put a tie on since, money is erratic but not too bad and I'm happier with less structure. Nice to see a US travel vlog that doesn't suddenly turn out to be some sort of religious mission, always feels a bit patronising when some well scrubbed twentysomething tries feeding me a bit of jeebus in between their fish and chips and changing of the damnable guard lol
@WorldTowning

Glad you got the less structure. Congrats! We are happier this way as well. Our WorldTowning journey is about connecting deeper to our kids and the people of the world and we are humanitarians. We do not practice organized religion or consider ourselves part of a religious group, but we respect others right to practice what their heart feels. Kindness is our religion. why nobody is complaining about the prices in London market? oh they are English, their handmade arts are more valuable than Moroccans' ... i always find it heartbreaking how tourists bargain with the poor morrocan craftmen, who beat big time anyone in the world with their high skills, but can pay more in the developed world where they sell a simple ''handmad'' cup for 40 pound ... if you appreciate art you should be paying the same amount of money wherever in the world you are....

Sal Projects there is a huge difference in the cost of living in the UK vs Morocco. Rent, food, Travel etc. Plus bartering is an integral part of the buying process in these countries. The locals do it, it is part of their customs. I have travelled all over those regions. There is no way you would walk in to a market in Beirut, Damascus, Casablanca and just pay the first price, it is not part of the culture. And as an aside, tourism and the money they bring to these places, especially in the markets far outweighs any discounts bartering brings
@WorldTowning
@WorldTowning 6 жыл бұрын
Alec - I agree that it is a part of the culture, but on a different note, there is the value question. When we were in London, we spent on only those things that we saw value in, and after coming from Morocco, I did not see value in much in London. Aside from the food, we did not buy much. It was too expensive and quite frankly, we do not need much. We bought so much more in Morocco because we saw items that intrigued us at a price that made sense to us.
@alecsmith4894
@alecsmith4894 6 жыл бұрын
World Towning I agree. There is a huge mark up on cost. I love about 50 minutes south of London, on the coast, which is stunning but not so far away that you lose the cosmopolitan life style and diversity. I have just returned from Indonesia and stocked up on some beautiful hand carved items, batik materials etc and the costs were so low. I downsized a few years ago into a much smaller property and now I just surround myself with things that have a meaning to me and something that triggers great memories rather than all the clutter and meaningless stuff! Watching with intrigue as you journey around, it is fascinating.
