My old stomping ground in the 80's where you'd usually find me in the Cartoon pub. Married a lovely girl from Purley and moved first to Tunbridge Wells, then to the Vale of Glamorgan where we now live. Interesting to see how much Croydon has changed.

@London Walk - You are not missing anything as Croydon is a run-down tip!! Back in the 80's and 90's, the town was very much English with a fantastic vibe, non violent and more over clean. However, the Englishness vanished once the UK joined the EU and has become so violent that it's a miracle if residents can avoid being targeted by knife and gun criminals. I would forget about Croydon and recommend you visit Holland Park or Mayfair.

Croydon has changed very much, too many homes are being built in ridiculous locations, the central area is run down. As for the person who mentioned the EU. The EU is not the cause of Croydon running down but those actually running the council who have mishandled finances. The EU has brought benefits to local colleges which I study at and an employment company that has helped me a great deal who received funding from the EU which now due to Brexit has been lost. I hope they will continue to sustain as well as they can however.
