Didn't Bob Hoskins describe John Bindon at his Old Bailey trial as a"cuddly bear" of a man, incapable of deliberately killing someone?

Bindon got in a bit of trouble when he was working for Led Zeppelin in the US. There's a few different versions of what happened, some say it was Bindon, Peter Grant and John Bonham bashing the concert promoter's son over some disagreement. Other versions just say Bindon chinned an American stagehand who had insulted him. In any case, he got fired from Zeppelin's crew and had to leg it back to the UK to avoid being arrested.
@peterh1353
@peterh1353 3 ай бұрын
The version I believe is that Plant's son took a star from a door as a souvenir and a member of the road crew gave him a clip around the ear (not knowing who he was) and Bindon floored him. Created a mini-war on the tour. Bindon was sent home and Grant never employed him again.

Bad day for Ray - escapes from a set to he doesn't want any part of, lays a cable in his Y fronts, gets slapped around, and then gets taxed. Hopefully things didn't get any worse for him...

Excellent vid. In the early 80s myself and a few friends who were early twenties then would go to the Water Rat pub on kings Road Chelsea on Saturdays. Bindon would always be there he took a shine to us young lads and we would hang out He was a fun nice guy. What made my ears prick up here tho in this vid was your mention of Clemie, I met her with him one time she eas very young late teens, anyhow she came over and snogged me at the bar, I nearly died thinking omg Bindon will kill me! He just laughed and I lived 😂

we were young Mods in the late 70's and used to got to the Golden Lion in Fulham Broadway on a Sunday afternoons on our scooters for the early Aussie "Church" as they called it back then, this had comedians, bands etc. The bar staff were very scary, but took us under there wing as many were earning a few extra pennies on the door as doormen and were training at the local barracks for the SAS and just seemed to like us, which was not a normal thing back then as we seemed to be the scurge of every other youth cult lol. I remember JB in the pub a few times, always with a large group of geezers and some lovely sorts. The rumour about his "old chap" was well know even by us, and I can assure you, all the door staff gave him major respect, as it was from them we heard the stories and who he was. He even used to treat us to a smile and a thumbs up, maybe because he was in the movie quadrophenia where he had played a crime boss. Anyway, strange world to had grown up in. From a working class propective, these were the type of people that earned our respect for many reasons and not because they were very just hard men. Way out of our league, but so glad that I had the chance just to be in the same place !

John Bindon was one of the most interesting gangsters around because he was associated with showbiz and royalty. His trial stopped the TV show "Hazel" from being screen because it would prejudice the case. Never met the man and only going on people I trust but he wasn't an honourable bloke at all and hit people who just annoyed him. Like students. He was a good collector for the Richardson's - and they didn't employ idiots. Said he felt safe at the end of his life because he lost so much weight that nobody recognised him. Everyone walked away though.

There were so many interesting things about John Bindon. One was that he was close friends with David Bowie's wife Angie. They used to go jogging together. She writes about him in her autobiography. Must have been interesting them all singing Christmas carols together at the Bowie household.

Interesting story. You should speak to Dave Smith, from Norbury. He was around a lot of those guys & knew them well. Bren Power was my landlord when I lived in Chelsea during the 90’s. The flat was right opposite, Jackie Leaches, Gaslight Club, on the Kings Rd. There were always faces & wrong ‘un’s in that gaff.

Great story mate! It wasn't until Matt Legg did a brief video on Bindon, l had any clue he was a villain on and off of the screen! I remembered his face from Get Carter, Z Cars (l think?) etc. How's Ray for backup with John!?! Left his bootprint on his mates head, while shooting through! My uncle and grandad fought in Africa, Crete and New Guinea... Shittin yself under fire, or in fear is a real thing.... as we saw here!! The book sounds like a good read.. Cheers.

I've stopped listening to all these one sided versions, the one telling the tale is always great and the other is a tart. I'm from the east end of Glasgow and i know a lot of the players everyone does but i also know things that they don't tell others, I also used to work with an ex CID guy and he did his policing in the 80's 90's in the east end and the story's he can tell about the lies of these gangsters and hardmen, certain bits of books which they write he said he just laughs because they tell you one load of garbage when he knows the real story. I would just take everything with a pinch of salt. plus in this case we can't get John Bindons take on it can we.

All books will have a creative licence as will people on podcasts telling their stories , as will old bill as will people in pubs. On my documentaries they are all thoroughly researched from court records and press archives and from people in the know . But book readings are take it or leave it . you don't know he's lying but I don't know if he telling truth it was a fight in a flat allegedly. I've spoke to people who are respected and knew him who say he was a face so that will do me. CID are the most corrupt lying 🤥 firm going as I know to my cost.

Sorry for the comment I sent you pal, it was out of order and on someone's channel who is a quality serious,humble man even worse of me! but mostly because you got as much rite to say whatever you believe with out a dickhead like me pulling you up and giving you a "producer" my bad! And it's wrong to say things like that online when it should be done in a way where its man to man not keyboard to keyboard! That's why I don't hide away behind an empty profile as I believe in showing your face if got something to say! So at the end of the day I'm sorry I should never give a negative comment to a negative comment and climb down to that level, really Hope you can atleast respect my apology even if not accept! It wasn't that bad anyway but it was a divvy move and out of order/more than anything to Mr E on his channel. Take care. + sorry geezer sorry E 2.0
