Sad to see old trains go on to other areas of the UK, even after the year it's been. Although in my opinion the 319's sound cooler on the AC motors, 321's are still cool :)

A nostalgic sound when they start off. Reminds me of 72 stock on the Tube.

It was a sad day when London Midland got rid of their Class 321 units. These are most reliable trains in Britain but they have started a new life in Scotland & they will spend the rest their life there These trains are gone on the West Coast Mainline but not forgotten.

For a 1980s-90s design the 320s, 321s and 322s all have a nice modern look to them especially at the cab ends (which I love), and the startup sound of the traction motors is simply awesome. However the modern look is spoilt somewhat by the interior and opening windows...

+Andison Iu Oh dear yes, they must have the worst seats and seating layout of anything currently running. Not only do they seem to be designed to be as uncomfortable as possible, they don't match up with windows at all.

I disagree with the doors. For heavy use commuter/suburban trains sliding doors are infinitely more preferable than plug type because of reliability for one thing, and speed being the other. The faster you can open and shut the doors, the less dwell time you need at each station. No Japanese train operator in their right mind would order trains with plug doors, with their time keeping and passenger numbers. No one really cares about the looks of the doors. They just want the doors to open and quick. I do agree about the interiors though. More effort could have been made to keep them up-to-date but the seating was just so comfortable compared to now.

321's showing their age now but certainly one of the better trains BREL ever made for their time. Too bad the UK was terrible at exporting though. Could have made a pretty penny.

What's happening to the coach they took out? Scotland is always going on about capacity yet they don't seem to be too bothered it seems.

that's strange the class 320s don't use London midland livery they use mainly scotrail livery mate

What has happened to the intermediate cars? Have they been scrapped? I hope not, though I suppose these units have given 27 years or service already! Quite impressive really.

Should have given it another 20 years of life before it was taken on to Scotrail if you ask me.

Shame they've moved. Will we ever see them run at 100 mph again? Used to look forward to a 2 ½ hour journey from New St. to Euston on these. The joy of a low 'Ashbourne' seat in NSE moquette and those whining Brush motors... Desiros, just aren't the same:(

All other Scottish EMUs have been 3 cars, 303, 314, 318, 320, 334 etc. So I guess they had to be reduced to 3 cars to make them interchangeable with the existing units.
