London Midland's Class 350/1 on the Southern. East Croydon to Shepherd's Bush.

Between 2008 and 2009 London Midland subleased 4 class 350/1's to Southern to cover for the class 377/2's which had been leased to First Capital Connect. We take a brief look at them when they ran over the Southern between East Croydon and Shepherds Bush. The units actually continued onto the West Coast mainline to Milton Keynes.

Some early videos on here of 444/450s also have them going straight to the higher pitch rather than at 20-30mph. Mustlve been a conscious change across the DC fleets early in their lives which these didn't get.

Desiro vs Electrostar. Interiors are nice from what i can remember, last time on one was last month, last time on an elctrostar was last week, frequently go on the 379s to Stratford. But I didn’t know about this, probably because i was in school, handy tho on the Watford- croydon branch because it goes via Willesden which is familiar territory either for depots or for Euston. And lastly livery is very similar to SNs so yh win win lol, nice vid

why do the 350/1 exist when the 450s do the same job?

Honestly I preffer electrostars solely because they aren't sluggish on third rail as compared to 450s and also because they make nicer traction motor sounds. 450s and 350s are too quiet inside for me , however they are fast to accelerate when on AC. Electrostars are faster overall. 350s do however seem to have more internal work done on them so I'll give them that. But I do like desiros don't vet it twisted.

They were *slightly* lower pitched than that on AC OLE

@@RWL2012 apparently ut was because third rail in those areas were poor so the 35os were modified for DC . Tbh 700s do a similar thing anyway. They sound different depending on the power source.

They also made a similar "we we we" on AC but it's similar to their regular AC sound. For some reason, making these units dual voltage required changing how they sound 🤔

I’m not sure, maybe because they are running off the 750vDc maybe?

It’s the different voltages so the motors run at different frequencies as the motors are spinning at a different speed the sound is higher pitch.

I think the 350/1 was Dual Voltage while the /2 was OHLE only
