London's Burning Series 5, Episode 5

Kate attends a house party and meets a young police officer named Don, Beattie's children are driving George and Kelly up the wall, Malcolm and Helen fight over a business move to Brussels, Bayleaf finds out Melanie is in Spain with his nutcase Ex-Wife Karen, ACO Bulstrode goes off on Nick after raving on about the safety of cars at a Chambers of Commerce Gala, and the watch's lives are on the line when Kate makes a potentially fatal mistake on a shout.

Poor little guppies. They made a wonderful feast for the piranhas though. But seriously, those double adaptors should be banned as people plug all sorts into them without realising the electrical safety issues they could cause. Having worked for an electrical contractor for 39 years, I know only too well that many homes are electrically unsafe, especially when more and more appliances are bought, when there aren't enough sockets for them to be plugged into, so they double up and double up which can create an overload of the circuits and cause fire. Home owners don't realise the potential dangers so don't have their homes tested and inspected, which they are not obliged to do. These days, the vast majority of public buildings (schools, libraries, commercial buildings, shops, offices, engineering workshops etc) have their premises tested every 3/5 years depending on their use as their insurance companies demand, which is a service that we carry out on a vast scale. Fire is terrifying as it's so aggressive and takes no prisoners, so I'm glad Nick brought it to the attention of those at the Gala Dinner. Fire fighters are the bravest of all the emergency services as they risk their lives to save the lives of others.

@@amethyst9998100% agree. And UNPLUG your tv when going to bed. Don’t simply press the switch next to the plug. We do house renovations. I’ve met many folk whose tv set on fire at night, electricity can “jump back out from a socket” for want of a more technical term. UNPLUG!!!! UNPLUG!!!!

It actually is a fire station officer's place to give their opinion on the flammability of materials used to construct vehicle upholstery. Bulstrode was wrong in reprimanding Nick about his speech.

blimey is it me or is samantha beckinsale one of the most lovely and pretty actresses out there, i can`t really remember watching much of londons burning at this time, but remind me to go shopping for londons burning dvds, when she was in it.

Yes, she was Richard Beckinsale's daughter. Unfortuanately, as this was around 30 years ago, she probably no longer looks like that.

@Stefano Pavone I was never beautiful, but I was attractive when I was younger. I'm 73 next month (Dec) and time isn't too kind to any of us, unless we are vain enough to have Botox or go under the knife, so we just have to make do with what's in store for us and stay lovely on the inside when the outside betrays us. 😄

One thing I always wondered, I know its a show but how the heck did shutting off the sprinklers shut off the alarm?

Sprinkler systems used to have flow run bells... hard to make sense of but the flowing water would run a turbine, that ran a centrifugal type bell. The idea dates back to the time when electrical fire alarms weren't universal. Quite an ingenious system :)
