Loved the show when I was a kid, and really loved the way it was all real with out CGI. Showed my 13 year old daughter a couple of these and she was fixed on it to the point shes asked for the box sets for her birthday.

This scene was Filmed on the Former RAF Greenham Common Airbase we watched it being shot from the perimeter road. When they are climbing on top of the fire appliance the big white building in the background was one of the aircraft hangers.

Every series had a major ‘shout’ like this one, covering various situations. The year before it was a collapsing fairground wheel. The year after it was a fire in a propane cylinder yard. The staging of these big incidents in the series was always fantastic.

Watched this as a kid. Remember one firefighter was called bayleaf. Just looked him up. So sad he died very young at the age of 53.

I believe that this was also in the same series as the propane cylinder fire, which was also on a set they largely built from scratch (a disused RAF base in Lincolnshire).

Fuel fires like that are terrifying. We have to train for them in the Royal Navy on our Basic sea survival course and all you can do is keep throwing AFFF on them to smother the fire and try to stop the spread. Get it wrong and you could lose the ships. Especially with aviation fuel in the hangar during transfer to airframes

@@BlueTGM40 He obviously has a PSV licence as well as a standard driving licence, plus there wasn't much time and he had to get it out of the way quickly and his officers were tackling the blaze and they needed to save the people in the Diner, so he drove the Engine to rescue them as no one else was able too.
