My guess is that typically for a drama, around the second season, at least one of the characters would pass away or been kicked from the show. I mean take Chicago Fire, for example (beware spoilers below) the first season finale ended with Shay dying off the show by the director and creators so this might be one of the typical things for actors/actresses for a drama series
