Judit Polgar once said that Magnus is extremely dangerous with his knights, so one thing that you have to do is swapping his knights. I am not surprised that he took a decision by entering endgame knight vs bishop and he simply outplayed Kramnik with his knight play in more or less equal position. Kasparov and Fischer were bishops lovers, but Magnus is a dark knight master.

4:13 that's impressive because you'd think the best outposts for the knight should be c5 and e5, both controlled by the bishop, therefore white should have the worst minor piece. But together the Rd2 and Nd3 work great along with the pawn chain while the bishop has no target.

Magnus deserves all the plaudits he gets of course but for me the real story of this tournament is Kramnik. How good was he?! He had Naka on the ropes in blitz and even out of retirement, he manages a third place finish. Just amazing.

The surname *Kramnik* sounds as the most lethal in chess history to me, even more than *Kasparov* , which sounds rather "powerful" instead, but as in an energy-related kinda meaning. Now, if considering not only that last name but first name too, *Magnus Carlsen* sounds like "skillful". So, metaphorically, "Kramnik" would be a hitman, "Kasparov" a fighter and Magnus an armored warrior. Note: I thought about this metaphor *before* Antonio published the video titled "The Perfect Warrior". P.S.: "Ding Liren", if wrote *this* way, sounds like a ninja. lol

Agad perfectly explained london system: it is not dangerous in itself, it is what you do with it. I am opposite example: I know only opening by heart, but due to my poor rating (around 1800 in classic) I dont have an good idea what to do in the middle game, so london doesn't work good form me in classical time format because my luck of strategy. But I discovered its purpose in 3 min. blitz and especially in bullet vs my league alike opponents: I spit out the whole opening (around 10 moves) in 3 seconds and because the london is such solid opening and lower rated players doesn't know by heart how to play black vs london (me ether:), they spent 30 seconds for opening and regularly lost on time in bullet. Of course, if I come across to higher rated player, he just smash me with my cheep "vast knowledge".
@occasusdeorum44734 жыл бұрын
v. v. Dude, London Bridge is actually a double-edged opening.. with white's slow manuevering setup but sharp attacks against black's countercenter play and solid challenges.. If the game reaches to endgame, black is slightly better but if white's setup is complete, assuming that black didn't put much resistance, white has a tremendous advantage.
"Not allowing captures, because of captures" should be on a shirt somewhere.

if "doubled pawns" are so bad, why would kramnik offer to trade bishops to double pawns (and open a file adjacent to the king) ? Is this an error/inaccuracy/whatever?
@charlespanache70474 жыл бұрын
Heres my take. Eventually an exchange will be made. Black might prefer the knight on D5. Yes you want to avoid doubling pawns if you can. But his opponent is Magnus its gonna be tough playing a flawless game.
@jrd334 жыл бұрын
Chess is complex. Sometimes doubled pawns are bad but it depends on the position and what material is still is play. Doubled pawns are often a liability in the endgame but they don't matter much if you're attacking (you might want your pawns doubled to create open files you can use for your rooks for example). Carlsen tends not to bother about having his pawns doubled at all - I recently saw one of his games where had 2 isolated pawns and 2 doubled, isolated pawns, so 6 paws and none of them could support each other
@thedeadbaby4 жыл бұрын
@@jrd33 in hindsight, we see that carlsen took full advantage of that open file because everything was a threat of attacking the king.

At 6:46, doesn't Rxg7+, Kxg7,Qh6+,Kf7, Ne5+,Qh7+ is winning. So instead of Kf7 Black must play Kg8 which leads to: Qxg6+, Qxg7 doesn't work because of Nf6+. So after Qg6, black must play Kh8 after which Nf6,Qxf6,Qxf6+ Kh7, Rxc3,Rxc3 will possibly lead to a win for white. Note that black also cannot get any rooks into the defence as moving one would leave the other one hanging.
@nesthi3 жыл бұрын
I can't follow your moves because it is missing black moves, example: Rxg7+, Kxg7,Qh6+,Kf7, Ne5+,(NO BLACK MOVE HERE?)Qh7+. But I don't see where Kramnick lost this match either. He could have played it out unless he loses by time.

To me, that game represents how well the torch was passed for the next generation from Kasparov to Carlsen, considering Magnus was, once, Garry's disciple. I know Kasparov also played some games against Caruana not a long time ago, but still Kasparov was able to dominate most of that games, even when he lost in the end, so I guess Carlsen shows best what I'm talking about. It would be really awesome if Kasparov played a first and last match against Carlsen, similar to how he played against Caruana.
