Let me firstly apologise for the poor quality of footage and my lack lustre on screen presence. I was still recovering from been drugged during an attempted assault/mugging earlier that afternoon. I will post a PSA all about it in a future video.
I LOVE all forms of transport. Planes, trains and automobiles. For all long time followers of my channel, you know that I am an aviation fanatic. What you may not know is that I ALSO love rail travel.
Alas, I haven't done many extended train journeys over the last few years, but I aim to change that!
The Caledonian Sleeper has been touted as the most luxurious way to get from London to Scotland (Glasgow, Edinburgh, Fort William, Aberdeen and Inverness).
I have fantasised about taking this service for years. Never thinking that I would ever have the opportunity.
In this video, I finally tick off a bucket list dream of mine. Not only am I taking the Caledonian Sleeper, but I have an entire Club Room to myself.
On this evening, travelling from London to Edinburgh, I will share with you every aspect of my time on the most luxurious sleeper train in Europe.

Everyone chooses the haggis, neeps and tatties for supper to enhance the Scottish experience. ;-) This is a pleasant, if somewhat pricey, way to travel, but if you're able to sleep on a rocking train you save the cost of a hotel room at the end.

It is definitely an enhancement of the overall Scottish experience. I know that it's over priced for what it is but it was seriously so tasty. Celedonian Sleeper is definitely not the cheapest mode of transport, but like you said, if you weigh up the cost diff of an overn ight hotel stay, it balances out. I actually slept really well onboard. The rocking was like a soothing lullaby.

Omg.... I'm now completely convinced how we're so behind in OZ. This train is just exquisite! Yes, I would have chosen the full Scottish brekky as well. Looking at your night footage, I seriously need to look into something better than the GoPro... That poor camera doesn't cope well out of the light. Lol... Clootie... I absolutely cannot wait to try these dishes next year. Lol the chocolate frog! Mmmmm... I love custard. There's always a box of custard profiterole in my fridge. That mirror lights are so perfect for selfie shots eh? Loved loved loved it!

You and Anthony must try this train service when you head to the UK next year. It's truly an amazing experience. Food is absolutely delicious. Not cheap for the night meals but so tasty. The brekkie is included in the price of the fare so eat up! Let me know when you arrive into Edinbirgh and I will meet you at Waverley station.

That train platform is so long that I began to wonder if you had decided to walk to Scotland instead of catching the train! LOL! I have been on two overnight trains, once from Venice to Vienna and another from Vienna to Paris. Wonderfully glamorous in anticipation in my head and I got on board expecting Agatha Christie 1930s Orient Express luxury. Of course, none of that! It was 1970s utilitarianism, although perfectly comfortable, to be sure. On the plus side, no praise is too great for the amazing evening views of the Austrian mountains in the winter and the French countryside was comparably lovely. Beyond magnificent! Thank you for the video and I am glad you are okay.

The views alone would have made the journey worth it. Venice t Vienna and then on to Paris. That would have been a DREAM rail journey. I am seriously envious. The Orient Express is definitely the TOP of my rail bucket list. I will definitely experience it before I depart this mortal coil.

I was on the Cale sleeper after a London concert trip, and I found it to be a lovely experience, one I'd definitely do again Turns out it also saved my skin too, I hadn't realised there were no sunday busses to my house anymore
@TimEatsandTravels
@TimEatsandTravels 10 ай бұрын
I rationalise paying the wee bit extra for the Caledonia Sleeper by not having to pay for another night's accommodation. Two birds, one stone! No Sunday busses? Then how do those without access to their own car or can't afford a cab get home?
@trollofduty007
@trollofduty007 10 ай бұрын
@@TimEatsandTravels eeeeexactly. Just wish the bus companies saw that And yeah! We took the trip home with 2 of us. Splitting the ticket cost between us, it was £150 each, which, given all the bells and whistles you get, was pretty good! A moving hotel, where you get a first class lounge beforehand, and breakfast included

I paid GBP265 one way. It's not the cheapest mode of transport but definitely the most luxurious and comfortable. The Lorne Sausage was DELICIOUS! I loved it so mjch I ate it almost every day I was in Scotland. haha I found a butcher that makes it here in Melbourne but it still doesn't taste as good as back in Scotland.

Tim my dear, We share many passions. Crumpler bags, eating in Penang, upper class travel on Singapore and Cathay Pacific Airlines, and the Caledonian Express. But I'm off on a new adventure early next year. What can you tell me about travel in Hanoi, Hue and Da Nang? Any tips? Oh, and I'm trying Nico's Sandwich Deli in Healeys Lane this Thursday. What do you recommend? From there I'm heading to the Rembrandt exhibition. Dr M

Hi Dr M, Firstly, thank you for dropping by and supporting my little channel. I create content primarily as a digital diary of my travel and culinary adventures. To have others enjoy my videos really does mean the world to me. Crumpler bags, Penang food and premium travel. Sounds like you and I have many shared interests. Just for transparency, I used to be the global head of IT for Crumpler. Back in their heyday. These days, apart from my TV antics, I primarily offer my operational support to various charities. Alas, that means less opportunity to travel. I have been meaning to try Nico's Sandwich! What did you order? Did you enjoy? Should I drop by for a visit? I am always around the neck of the woods. One of my favour cuisines is Vietnamese. Unfortunately, I have not had the privilege to visit. It is very high on my travel bucket list. Once again, thank you so much for supporting my little channel. Cheers, Tim

Thanks for getting back Tim, Anyway, I have been a fan of Crumpler bags for nearly twenty years now. You can imagine my surprise when I moved to Buninyong a few years ago and found that Stu and Suz C. were my neighbors up the hill. They have since sold up and moved into town (B'Rat) but they are just the nicest couple, and we often seem to bump into each other. Stu was so gracious as to repair my original bag from 2002. Stu's man cave/workshop at the old Gun Cotton factory at Delacombe is the stuff of legends Whatever, your channel is a delight. I used it as a basic reference point for my trip to Penang earlier this year. Perhaps we will bump into each other in Vietnam. I look forward to being an Uuk.
