if you visit north of england in 1 0r 2 years time you will be able to ride the D78s again as they replacing those dreaded pacers however these will be designated as class 278 DEMUs

Exactly could waste of money, done it looks brand new formal train like this... I honestly, these look good to comfort the trains. I don't know why to take District line taking away for towed it is, hm?!! :( What's so disappointing!

Sad day for London loosing the only decent surface stock in service, I remember the D78’s string in service in 1978, and have to add that I do not like the new S7 stock trains due to the seating, the S8’s have better seating, but can’t stand the loud PA’s on both classes. D78’s VIP stock.

Why is it a waste, 37 years old, cannot take advantage of the new signalling, no point keeping them for the District Line.

I find it disgusting that it is cheaper to run several lorries up to long Marston causing congestion and inconvenience and yet these trains could be taken by rail. The same goes for preserved lines. Several have mainline connections and yet prefer to move stock by road. It's ridiculous.

***** the D78s are going to be fitted with diesel engines and operate in 2 or 3 car formations to replace the pacers these will allow the pacers to meet their death or get preserved so these D78s will become the class 278s under the TOPS classification
