Hello! Won't it be great to do a city comparison here? Okay, let’s start with London vs New York City comparison. In the course of this comparison, we shall see similarities and differences between living in London and living in New York City. Let me quickly tell you that this is not just a living comparison, but a city comparison. Therefore, while we would love to be as detailed as we can be, please, don’t feel let down when certain details about living conditions are missing.
Nevertheless, here’s a highlight of what we think you should know about these two iconic and fanciful cities that boast wonderful foods, classical theatre, exotic lifestyle, and state-of-the-art technologies. Please enjoy the city comparison, London vs. New York City.
Size
London is the largest city of England and the United Kingdom. Sometimes referred to as the City of London and The Square Mile, the city has an area of two square miles. But this is smaller than the area known as The Greater London which is about 607 square miles which incorporates 32 boroughs.
New York City (NYC), often simply called New York, is the most populous city in the United States. The city located in the southern part of New York State, the 24th largest city in the US, sits on a total area of 300.46 square miles. New York City is made up of 5 boroughs, namely the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, and Manhattan.
Population
What about the population of the two cities? The population of London is estimated to be 8.9 million while that of New York City is 8.8 million. This means more people are living in London than those living in New York City. Did you notice that we mentioned that the figures are just an estimate? The population of New York City is derived from US Census data analysis.
While the London area is almost double that of NYC, the population figures for both cities are pretty close. London is only a couple of hundreds of thousand more populous than New York. For that reason, London’s population density of 11,407 people per square mile, is lower than New York City’s. NYC, which is also the most densely populated major city in the US, has a population density of 27,000 people per square mile.
Though London is bigger and more populous than New York City, more people are living on the streets of New York than you would find on London streets. This is because more New Yorkers are packed and cramped into a smaller area than Londoners.
People
This can be a bit controversial, but that’s what has been observed about the people who live in both cities. Londoners, as those living in London are called, are polite, though other people see them as being too reserved, or even haughty. They’re perceived by foreigners as giggly and judgmental. It remains to be proved whether they see themselves in that light. People living in London are keen on structure and politeness in dressing. However, they can be less formal and can even unbutton their shirts at the pub. You can expect them to give you a long French stare if you’re an oddball. One beautiful thing about the people living in London is the preservation of tradition. Tea has remained tea since millenniums, and lawyers still appear in white wigs.
On the other hand, New Yorkers, as people living in New York are called, can be erratic, impulsive but confident. Yet, this produces the best result. As a matter of fact, if you don’t have a measure of ruggedness or can’t cope with furor, the non-stop city of New York is probably not for you. You can be called out for almost anything by New Yorkers. New York is for the determined people. The city, however, is designed and run to allow everyone to get the best. Thus, nothing is depriving anyone of good food, dark humor, and new experiences if you strive.

I prefer London over NY. London's transportation is top notch, it is more modern, cleaner, and safer. The city of London overall is also cleaner and safer than NYC with less mentally ill and homeless people. London also has a lot more history and character.

London is older, so in that way it has "more history", but there's a reason filmmakers of all nationalities combine to make about 15 films in New York City for every 1 film in London. The City of New York just has more character, more modern history that people are more familiar with, and is just more interesting to people around the world who have never been to either.

London is a wide city. From the sky, it doesn't look that impressive compared to other cities around the world as it doesn't have the sky scrapers but when you are on the ground, the sheer size of the city and how built up it is, is overwhelming. It's not until you get outside of zone 3 that things start to calm down a bit. The Underground is like a universe in and of itself. New York is more of a tall city. The height of the buildings is a sight to see

London any day.. afternoon and Devonshire teas, parks/gardens/lakes, interesting places to see and visit, lot's of nice food, high percentage of people are well mannored and polite, I remember London in the 70's when I was a lad and it was so cheap (so was everywhere else I suppose).. I imagine New York in the 70's and 80's would've been amazing too..

Central park isn't Manhattan's only park. There is Battery park on the south-western tip, which gives a great view of the water. There is also Bryant park in midtown, and Riverside park in the north, which spans a long way along the Hudson river. There are also huge parks in other boroughs, Pelham bay park in the Bronx being the largest, which is over 3x the size of Hyde park in London. Prospect park in Brooklyn was designed by Fredrick Olmsted, and is one of the most beautiful parks in the world with 526 acres of woodland, ponds, and meadows.

I’m sure NY has many parks. And Central Park is stunning. I just said London has more parks, which is reality. We have more uninhabited land, hence, more parks and squares. I never mentioned Hyde Park in my comment, either. It is not our biggest park; Richmond Park is.

I've spent a lot of time in both cities. while it's true London has more park space overall, New York has much more than just Cemtral Park. Washington Square Park for one has probably appeared in more movies than any other park. Still, as big as Central Park is, and the sum total of all the other parks, New York pales in comparison to the parks in London. And they're all far more beautiful.
@asiankaos3861
@asiankaos3861 2 жыл бұрын
The central park being the only park in Manhattan isn't true. It is the biggest park and the others are more of a mix of green and concrete but there is Theodore Roosevelt Park, Morningside Park, Fort Washington Park, Bryant Park, and many many more. This doesn't even take into account the other boroughs like Prospect Park in Brooklyn (which I prefer over central park) or Queensbridge Park in LIC.

Living for sure London. NY is chaos. London has far better architecture as a general rule, every road, street, area feels so distinctive. New York is amazing as a tourist because it's like jumping into a movie set, it's very unique, no where quite like it in the world. But if you're going to spend an extended time in one, London blows it out the water it has something for everyone without feeling overwhelmed constantly.

I am from Mumbai, India. Will be moving to London in couple of months. The most fun part of this video is reading the comment section. Every comment that votes for one city over the other , has passionate lovers of the other city in comments saying "looks like you have never been to XXXX" 😄 I have been to London and it felt a lot like Mumbai (minus the slums, very visible poverty and all the dirt and garbage). But, the pace, the daily travelling in public transport, the crowd- felt very familiar. Never been to NYC- hope will get that chance one day.

The reason why more homeless people in the streets of NY is, that the English gvt takes care of their own people better than American. If you can't get the job or work or if you are ill in the UK, the gvt takes care and support people with money plus also pays the rent if people can not afford to pay themselves. In America the gvt doesn't care for their people at all, they just give them few food stamps, on which with only this you can not live, but they don't give the money neither pays the rent. Also it's true the American people are rude and self centred egoists, but English people are polite and caring individuals, thinking of somebody else also not just themselves.

I would argue that even British snobbishness wouldn’t possibly be able to beat American “exceptionalism”. It’s a vast overgeneralisation to assume that just because there was once the British Empire, all the Brits are arrogant. I suppose in that regard there is nothing surprising or “exceptional” in this comment haha. I do hope you’d visit our island one day, I am sure you’ll enjoy it.

@@allazharduisenbek9936 Well, the youngster has been busy typing today, responding to a comment written 7 months ago. Sorry to let you down, but 156 million Americans have valid passports. Those passports are used primarily to other continents, unlike UK passports, which are, of course, necessary to travel from the UK to Spain, which is the equivalent of traveling from Texas to Florida. Both are states in what we call the South. The United States spans a continent and the longest domestic flight is Boston-Honolulu, 12+ hours one way. So please don’t be silly. This from an American who has a home abroad, speaks Arabic fluently (and OK Greek) and has had to renew passports early because the pages were full.

It seems that centuries grind by quite slowly on the other side of the Atlantic haha… I didn’t expect much and was right after all. I wonder if you understand the meaning of the word “most”? 150 some million against the total population of 330 some million means that the majority of you don’t have a passport. I would be ashamed to be schooled by a “youngster”. Of course America is so massive one might as well stay and not travel at all. Well, so is Russia, doesn’t mean that one would want to live there. It seems that the problem is not only in American “exceptionalism” but in inherent “gigantism”. You might as well extend your borders beyond and go and colonise the Red Planet. I’d say London is more suited for life. I found NY a bit too dangerous and overpopulated. It has its own unique charm no doubt, but it seems that only highly enthusiastic and active people can truly make NY home. London, on contrast, is calmer - one can always easily escape the noise. Also, I think it has a more welcoming environment for international investors/guests, it’s more diverse and interconnected. The society here is more elevated in sophistication, more people read and enjoy arts. Moreover, geographically we are quite close to other major European cities, so the world feels much smaller. For me, personally, London deserves the title of “The Capital of the World”.

😂 You have only been to Manhattan given your ‘observations’. There is no more diverse city in the world than New York. How the hell would you know about more people reading and enjoying arts in London than New York? Based on what? Research? Your desires? New York’s theater scene is much more vibrant than London’s and there is simply no comparison in the food scene. London is like a bunch of villages that have grown together over time. It’s fun and quaint - but hardly in the same league as New York. No need at all to go into which is best for business and investment - different scale. You must be quite young, not having experienced much yet.

@@redsquirrel1086 eh, some things are quantifiable facts. Like the fact that London ALSO includes public swimming pools in their parks. I’m not gonna say it’s superior to London but I’m also not gonna say London is superior to New York because they actually are very very similar cities. It’s actually a thing that New York and London are considered twin cities. It’s called “NyLon,” look it up. But either way, agree to disagree I guess.
