To add to your recreation section I would add the fact that there are easy ways to get to the ocean or the mountains without a car. In the summer, NY Waterway ferries take you to great beaches, especially Rockaway. Metro North trains to Cold Spring or Beacon gets you to scenic hiking trails like Mt Beacon and Breakneck Ridge. There are tons of Meetup groups for runners, cyclists, hikers and just about any other activity you can think of. I have been pleasantly surprised by the amount of outdoor options available here, as well as the great people you can meet.

Getting to Rockaway is also pretty easy by taking the subway through Brooklyn. I lived in a more convenient location in Manhattan when I lived there for a month, but a few months before for a few days, I stayed in a Rockaway hotel. It was a crap hotel, but it only took about an hour to get into Manhattan from there. It was cold out though, I can't wait to see what the beach is like when I move into Brooklyn later this year.

my wife is from nowhereville in arkansas and fell in love with nyc in 2018. now she wants to move there. i do not like the idea but will try it out for a year. i like the place but feel like its better to visit and leave.
