Definitely. She doesn't venture far from Effie anymore, especially if Alika is around. She was definitely scared and that was horrible to watch but she is OK and still being inquisitive.

I think Effie is doing the best she can within her somewhat limited skill set. Again thank you for the video's of this family a lot of us were extremely worried about baby Eff and Alika, it was very traumatic to watch and anxiety levels were high. I truly didn't think that Alika wanted to hurt baby Eff, I think she was so excited to finally get her hands on one of the babies that she was over stimulated and played very roughly. As I said in another post I have to believe that the Zoo staff and Vets were monitoring the situation with a plan in place to remove the baby should it be needed. I do know that gorillas when in distress emit a high pitched squeal which alerts all the gorillas that something is wrong. That squeal would have alerted the biggest gorilla that his baby needed him. It was an emotional time for all of us who witnessed this and I for one am just grateful that baby Eff is ok and is with her family where she should be. 💖💖 🦍

I am hoping this is a current video. It seems a little suspicious that the video has been erased and all are comments of concerns and nothing else til this clip showing Effie has the baby back. The video of Alika with the baby was very alarming. Time will tell.

I took this video last Monday. Baby is fine, with her family as she should be. Meanwhile the person who caused the uproar never once tried to make sense of the situation, or try to understand why the zoo, who are experts in primate care, did not run in and grab the baby and bring it up by humans. Instead they have just put out a video of a zoo that appears to be hand rearing their gorilla babies in a world totally different to its families world. I stopped watching at the part where three human adults HD the baby down while someone sticks a swab up its bottom to test for what??? Why is that necessary? How is that better than this beautiful tough little girl who is strong and exquisite being allowed to grow up with her family in a way that is as natural as possible in a captive situation? Effies baby is fine. Alika is learning how to care for babies, Gernot is learning to be a calm kind silverback. The babies are learning about family and play. The family intervenes when they think Eeffies baby needs to go back to mum. For all the people who say they love gorillas, maybe its time to start trusting that they know what they are doing with their young and the do know more than humans that is for sure.

Also I have nothing to do with.the other.videos except that I disagree with what the person is trying to do. Also I decided to go to the zoo to find out the situation for myself because I don't trust only what I see.in a short video. I also asked the zoo about what Was happeningning and they met me and explained why they did not need to intervene.

@shawna6683. True. I do see your point, and on occasion, watching the old videos i have kind of felt disappointed with her, like 'oh Effie, please be nicer, she just wants a hug' . But honestly when I've been at the zoo I haven't seen that. I've only been twice, but my experience maybe because of what happened, she has not appeared to be mean, has been very close to LE as well.

@@neptunes3279 I was there the day Albert, another iconic gorilla, died in about 1980. They named the restaurant in the heart of the original Zoo after him. Winston was actually a resident of the Safari Park and I’ve heard they will name a new restaurant after him. Hope that happens. Nothing like the Zoo (or Safari Park) after dark in the summer. Have dinner and finish the evening with a nice walk and a chance to see the animals.

@user-km6jk6xh3v OK. Thank you for explaining. I'm not sure which video you mean, but I've had a look through the shorter ones as well as this one. At the beginning of this one, Little Effie ( Effie is the mums name. The babies names have not been released yet so I'm calling them LE for Little Effie and LM for Little Mjukuu). So LE is basically grabbing grass etc while mum eats. It's only a few seconds so please be assured she didn't sit still for long. Another video that is just over 2 minutes has a bit where mum is laying down and LM is actually leaning on her. She is actually having a feed at that time. It's difficult to see. There are times I have to cut stuff out because believe me, there are a lot of people trying to see so I get heads and feet and faces that I worry about showing. Please be assured both babies are constantly learning to climb, or trying to eat wood chippings and discarded food ( from the adults) like most babies do. A few minutes videos don't show anywhere near what they get up to. Both babies look happy and cared for with dotting mums. Please feel free to ask any questions from any of my videos I will always try to explain. Thankyou for taking the time tto watch and comment. Have a lovely day. 😊

Is effies behavior to the baby normal? Obviously the baby is growing and looks healthy but effie seems sort of detached in my opinion. I’m no expert I watch a lot of gorilla videos tho😊
@Ape_Appreciation
@Ape_Appreciation 4 ай бұрын
@beckyhodges, yes Effie does appear flat. Its complex and in my non professional opinion might have a bit to do with behaviours learned when being reared by humans. I was told by the curator of animals that when wild animals are brought up by humans it is rare for them to have not suffered a bit of damage in the way they fit in socially with their troops. I don't know enough to be completely confident that I am right though. I have also seen Effie being very loving to her baby, especially my last two weeks and have some lovely footage I want to publish very soon. I hope that might help you to feel more confident in Effie's mothering skills. If you have any more questions please feel free to ask, and in the meantime I'm going to try to look a bit more into how and where Effie was brought up. Thank you for watching.

👍🏽 @beckyhodges4287 You’re **Right on Point** re what you Observe about Effie’s behavior. Since the “Incident” involving Alika? Half Sister to Effie’s baby, and her being Extremely abusive to the baby, both Viewers and Subscribers have been commenting for MONTHS even BEFORE the Incident re how Effie seems LESS than Affectionate and Attentive toward her baby (now Known as VENUS). I can Certainly understand that Gorillas may sometimes exhibit ABNORMAL behavior due to Captivity and the stresses of **Living in a zoo** being OGLED daiLy by Humans and having to Endure their Insufferable noisy din. Therefore, I’m trying mightily Not to Expect too much or get too Emotional. However, I often become very Worried when it comes to the babies 😢

That sounds reasonable I know with puppies there are certain milestones they are supposed to reach as babies and if they are in puppy mill situations it just doesn’t happen. So as adults there are usually some lingering signs that they were puppy mill babies. They are still loving dogs but have minor issues we have to accept

@@renewashington791they almost always have issues after being hand reared as babies but other video accounts that seem to talk for the nation but constantly lie, still say that is better. They still say holding a baby down to stick a swab up its bottom is better than these babies. And then on top of that criticise the zoo because Effie shows her LOVE for her baby differently to others but they want the same thing to happen to Venus and Juno in their expert opinion, while I sit and watch and I guess enjoy watching babies being starved and cover it up for some reason. Must think I am a really nasty person to be happy to do such a thing. I would never think someone capable of that. Even if its not said directly, insinuating that I cover up abuse in my videos and lie is preposterous and very hurtful.

@Ape_Appreciation
@Ape_Appreciation 4 ай бұрын
It kind of is obvious! But this is the way it is, and these gorillas are happy and well looked after. Zoos nowadays play a big part in conservation, saving habitat in the wild along with many other aspects you and I probably haven't even considered as being important. Also, until the Internet age and apart from a few books written by scientists, zoos were the only way we could learn about these magnificent animals. With education comes knowledge and the ability to make changes in the human aspect that is causing the decline in habitat and so numbers of gorillas in the wild. Its not perfect, but it is what it is, and watching the families as they grow is fascinating and very cute. Watching a video of a baby gorilla learning how to climb, learning how to eat and play might be frivolous, but it is a really nice way to relax and be happy. That's how I feel anyway.

@@olgadebartolome1332I understand and I agree with you. I watched a documentary about a research facility in a part of Central Africa.It was filmed I think in the 1980s or early 90s. They had a facility for research of gorillas and Chimpanzees. It was a horrible building. They decided to return a small family to the wild. They chose a safe island. They didn't do any trains with them and they were so bewildered when they arrived. Trigger warning that it was upsetting and it makes me cross. You are 100% right. In a way, zoo animals are wild animals but not free animals and it is very sad. Take care.

@olgadebartolome1332 I was at the zoo yesterday and I've noticed this with each visit that when the troop are outside Kiburi really stares at the lones of people watching. I feel very sorry for him. He is apparently very gentle, not a bossy leader, but he is a leader and his job is to protect his family. My human feeling watching him is that when it comes to hundreds of people milling past him almost makes a mockery of him. He can't do anything about it. It does make me sad and very sorry he has to go through this.
