Even tho time passes slower for the people with stronger gravity. Can they still age the same? The time that slows down is the clock. But how about the biological clock? Can it be that the time its takes to travel near light speed is just fast forward instead of being stretched out so you can still age and come back in the future aged 50 years aswell just your perception would be 5 years and the person in earth's perception would be 50. Also I understand that travel back in time would only be at the time you left meaning that you can travel long distance into 1970. But that would mean that you leave 1970 , travel for 50 years and come back 1970 looking 50 years older. Are my theories tested already?

Not 'the grandfather paradox' again! If you could set when you travel to, if you did want to kill your grandad, you would have to go before he died but after your parents had had you, then you would still have been born but the paradox becomes a case of would your life have been different without him around, if he's being there was the cause of your early life and you wanting him dead.
@LondonCityGirl5 жыл бұрын
The whole point of the paradox is to explore what would happen if you went back to BEFORE the grandson had been born. We're questioning what would happen to the grandson's existence - that's how the paradox arises. You're posing a different hypothetical which doesn't give rise to the same dilemma and that's why it's not used in these videos.
@nigelmathewsnrm5 жыл бұрын
Which in a way is why I replied with the other hypothetical situation, as most videos on KZbin about Time Travel seem to use the Grandfather paradox as a indicator that Time Travel isn't possible because of the paradox. I was not against the video 'cos of the way it was made or 'cos of who made it, as the subject is indeed interesting and hopefully long may it continue to be.

In interstellar time flows more slowly on the watery planet due to the gravity of the black hole around which the planet orbits, not because of the planet's gravitational force. One hour on the planet is equivalent to about seven years on the ship.
@LondonCityGirl5 жыл бұрын
In the video I said 'a team of astronauts visit a watery planet where the gravity is significantly higher than that experienced on the ship they have left behind' so I'm not implying any reason why the planet is in a higher gravitational field compared to the ship. The reason why the black hole is not mentioned in the video is because we're not exploring the science of Interstellar (I'm working on a video of that at the moment). I wanted to keep minds focussed on the difference in gravitational fields between the planet and the ship because that is what causes the difference in time between the two.

6:44 There is another solution to the time travel paradox. Time travel not only creates a new future where the time traveller does not exist, but also a new past where the time traveller NEVER existed. Let's suppose you create a spaceship that travels faster than light. According to Einstein's relativity, velocity affects the time flow. The faster you move, the slower time flows. When you reach the speed of light, time stops completely. When you travel faster than light, time flows backwards. Inside the ship all laws of physics are reversed. Instead of getting older, you get younger. Instead of things falling down, things go up. Instead of walking forward, you walk backwards. Everything happens like a movie being rewinded. When the ship finally returns to Earth, a much younger astronaut emerges, with no recollection of having ever entered the ship. Now let's suppose you are able to do the opposite. Let's suppose you are able to make time flows backwards OUTSIDE the ship, instead of inside. OUTSIDE the ship all laws of physics are reversed. Instead of people getting older, they get younger. Instead of things falling down, things go up. Instead of walking forward, people walk backwards. Everything happens like a movie being rewinded. But the time traveller is inside the ship, not outside. Inside the ship time still flows forwards at a speed of one second per second. For the rest of universe, outside the ship, time flows backward, with people walking backwards. Outside the ship there is no time traveller to walk backwards. The rest of the universe which is flowing backwards in time CREATES A NEW TIMELINE, A NEW PAST WHERE THE TIME TRAVELLER NEVER EXISTED! When the ship finally arrives back on Earth, the traveller discovers a new past, one in which he never existed. He is still able to find his parents, but they never gave birth to him. He is able to find his children and grandchildren, but they all have a different father and grandfather. He is still able to find his facebook page, with photos of himself, but they were created by a different person, with all the pictures digitally altered. The only thing in common between this new timeline and the old timeline is the moment the time traveller departed. That moment is the initial condition of the system. By applying the laws of physics, you can determine the final condition of the system some time in the future. But by applying the same laws of physics IN REVERSE, you can find a PREVIOUS conditon of the system IN THE PAST.
@MateusSFigueiredo4 жыл бұрын
It's an interesting theory - to think that time would fly backwards in a way that the time traveller did not exist anymore - but it's way too complicated and has too many loose ends.
@hcm99994 жыл бұрын
It is complicated? The only thing I did was apply all the normal laws of physics in reverse, to find a previous condition of the universe. It allows time travel which is just time flowing backwards. And it also solves any paradoxes. There are no paradoxes in my solution. What loose ends do you refer to?
@MateusSFigueiredo4 жыл бұрын
@@hcm9999 the loose end of how the time traveller was born, for example.
@hcm99994 жыл бұрын
@@MateusSFigueiredo That is not a loose end. He was born in a different timeline. Time travel as I have defined is simply time flowing backwards. As time flows backwards, it creates a new timeline, one in which the traveller never existed. You apply the laws of physics to determine the FUTURE state of a system, or the PAST state of a system. The equations are exactly the same, you only change the value of time. It means that both the future and the past are not pre-determined, they depend on the initial condition of the system. If you change the initial condition of the system, you can change both the future and the past. Because time travel necessarily creates a new timeline, it is not possible for the traveller to return to his own past. He will return to a new past, one in which he never existed. He could kill his own parents and it would make no difference. No paradox occurs.

They travel very fast. I'm guessing this is fast enough to overcome the effects of their distance from gravity.
@LondonCityGirl5 жыл бұрын
Erm, perhaps a quick google would help before assuming someone messed up :) It's a widely known fact that time on the ISS runs slower than on Earth and the reason as Gregor rightly points out below is because of the difference in speed. The Earth is in a stronger gravitational field however the ISS moves at a faster speed - take the two into account and the net outcome is that time runs ever so slightly slower on the ISS.

There is a solution to the time travel paradox. Time travel to the past creates a new past in which the time traveller NEVER existed. Let's suppose that your time machine is a spaceship. Inside the spaceship time flows at normal speed forward at one second per second. But when you travel back in time, time outside the spaceship flows backwards for example at 10 years per second. Outside the ship all laws of physics are reversed. Instead of getting older, you get younger. Instead of things falling down, things go up. Instead of walking forward, you walk backwards. Everything happens like a movie being rewinded. No laws of physics are violated. No paradox is created.

My idea of time travel to the past and changing the past is that it creates a branch timeline, and from there it can go in 2 ways: 1. You cannot return back to your timeline, because history has changed and therefore the branch timeline is now the current timeline. (If one were to kill their grandparent(s) in the past, they could still exist in that timeline, because they came from another one, but they're now stuck in the past) 2. You can return to your timeline, but nothing would've changed based on what you did in the past, because reality keeps on going. If this is a bit confusing, think of time as a river running straight, and if you divide a portion of the river, you now have two river streams running concurrently with each other.
