The horses seem much more calm now that they aren't allowing people to pet them. But I have to admit, I LOVE when the guards yell at them! 😂

Yeah, but when it’s a guard on a horse shouting, the horse always reacts with stress, mostly because the guard has to pull/yank the reins out of the hands of the tourists, causing pain in the mouth of the horse.

Horses that can't be pet shouldn't be around public people at all. That's the first sign of lack of desensitization and high risk of injury for themselves or those around.

@@AnnJo24224 You’re completely missing the fact and point, that these horses aren’t meant to be pet. They’re meant to stand guard. If you want to pet a horse, go to a petting zoo. Petting these horses are the tourists’s need, not the horse’s.

The interesting thing is that both horses have dropped heads, which is a sign of a completely relaxed horse. A horse with a head high or tossing is a stressed or anxious horse. The result of not being mauled.

There’s been a massive improvement in the touching of the horses. I think people forget how horrible it used to be, where you could barely see the horses face there’d be so many hands on it at once. The horse would be so crowded in with tourists around it. It is so much better now.

Consistency is still missing. Horses are calmer when not touched and crowds not in their face. It also helps Trooper when melt downs occur to have space to regain control of meltdowns . Thank you John for your commentary. Learning alot about traditions and history along Whitehall.

I totally agree with you concerning having more signs. It would also be helpful if all the guards would be consistent with speaking up to the tourists. Also, quietly spoken words by the guards to the tourists seems to work well. That gives the guard a choice of whether to speak in a loud or soft voice. Some guards may not like speaking loudly to tourists so soft voice also seems to work.

The guards need to be consistent. He let a group of ladies touch the horse, but when they left he started telling others no. Off-duty guards are one thing, but allowing all hands on deck for a while and then changing plans confuses the peasants.

And that’s the problem when exceptions are made for visitors known to troopers. They should know better and not touch the horse when they are in the box. What, they cannot control themselves? So you cannot blame the tourists to all swarm on top of the horse’s face. UGH!

When the horse is coming to the box the tourists just stand there, are they expecting the horse to maneuver around them. So glad that guard yell at them to move since no police was on hand to escort the tourists behind the back line.

Since most have never been there before, they didn’t know the protocol and that they were standing in the horses pathway. They were confused because they didn’t know which way to go. The police are usually there to help.

Yes , around horse’s it’s a big no to wear open toed shoes, it has to be covered shoes or jodhpur boots when working with horses seems common-sense If horse steps accidentally on your foot it does happen and it’s not the horses fault a child always needs supervision

From working with horses they dont like poking, touching with there hands out , it looks like a threat to them. Some dont mind it depends on the personality of horse. You still dont need to touch. There on duty. To much touching they get antsy to much crowding.

Yes they have the ability to lock their hock and sleep, they do sleep laying down however it’s instinctive to sleep standing up unless the horses are in a herd, l hope that helps x

Morning John…perhaps you didn’t see…but the tour guide yelled at the girl because she touched the horses muzzle when he looked her way. Perhaps the girl was part of her group. It is so wonderful to see the guards actually telling “No touching”! The horses seem so much more peaceful 😊 Don’t mean to contradict you…but I think you missed the girl touch the horse. @@Nickyd8539 This was filmed on August 7th, the day before the new white signs went up. The girls were off-duty guards touching the horse. Tourists took advantage, but the guard on the horse set them right as soon as his colleagues left.

Unfortunately it does send a mixed message when they see some people able to touch the horse and they are not in uniform. I believe just many of the LG have said no to touching the horse as B&R as those that have turned a blind eye. I think it must be difficult for the troopers to have to do a complete 180 and say you can't touch when previously they had said you can. The troopers need to get used to the new rule as much as the tourists. But there is definitely a lot less touching, even more since the new sign with the horses head.

That trooper should be reprimanded for allowing friends to touch the horses. This is still not consistent in this individual case. All that happened as soon as he allowed it was massive attempts to touch his horse. Overall there is much improvement and other Troopers are setting good examples. Consistency is the objective.

I love seeing the horses so relaxed, it’s such a difference , all the hands touching the horses especially around sensitive areas the horses’ were throwing their heads and that becomes a problem with schooling and the Guard getting stressed , l’m pleased it’s consistent and just as I said that hands over the horse, it has to be rules and consistency and consequences Do NOT TOUCH THE HORSE it cannot be any clearer than that, lovely to be back after long duty John , missed your high quality videos , 🫶🏻

I want to see it enforced for all. If that blond lady was a guard, she should take her friends to the stables. Sets a bad president and others don't know she is affiliated. 😢

After the Gatesman left, the Boxman kept his sword at the "carry " position for several more mins. Not unusual I guess. Penny for his thoughts as he broke out in grins 22:39 onwards over something only he knows 😉 What the... the Guard at left can tick that one off of her bucket list. Ruddy heck the police not in crowd control with that horse change, never seen that happen before. My Fave Trooper "Iceman" having to shout out at the disorganised lines of tourons. John you were in the right place to catch that one for sure. Thank you for naming Trooper Zambezi, I had him on my unknowns list for awhile. Enjoyed, kiwi 😊

Some idiots don't even read the sign that is there , so having 2 signs will not make a difference . Like one gentleman said in 1 video "WHAT SIGN". Some think the signs are not meant for them.
