Dear Alan has a way of " painting a picture" with the words he chooses. You feel as if he's reminiscing, having a cosy chat with you.😊. When he describes something amusing or quaint, his accent and tone of voice make it even funnier. Years ago I heard him reading something about 2 ladies chatting on the bus : I only caught part of it, and have hoped to find it again....anyone know what it was ? Maybe part of a larger work ? I love his " matter-of-fact" style. It's not just like " idle gossip ", it always rings true : astute, thoughtful observation of human nature.... I'm soaking it all up as fast as I can ! 😊. It is comforting, down-to-earth, imaginative and rewarding to listen to. What a wonderful character .😊. 😊🇬🇧💕😊⭐🇬🇧😊💕

Bennett is like STEPHEN FRY'S indulgent dad... (Only one of them SHOWS OFF and pretends that's an accident...) Bennett doesn't even pretend to show off... (He just does...) By accident. Bennett (even from earliest days...) has created the banal and mundane as THEATRE!!! (He also has done stuff like KING GEORGE and A QUESTION OF ATTRIBUTION which go somewhere else...) The man is a fucking genius... Everyone who loves the written word should give him a great big KISS and a HUG... (He'd hate that...) Fuck him, he should get what he deserves... We love him... xx SF

Actually, I've always found his faux naïf style of delivery rather irritating and a bit phony. From some of his work, I get the feeling that underneath the folksy exterior he's a bit of a bar-steward.

Brilliantly observed. How is this already downvoted on the first day of being uploaded? I've been waiting for this a whole year and has not disappointed but when did Alan ever disappoint? Must be tough going for someone who is 'struggling' to have to understand whole sentences and so many references but it is sheer delight as far as I'm concerned and I am more thrilled than concerned and very thankful Alan is still mordant and sharp when he chooses. A pity as the 'strugglers' won't get any enjoyment out of this and should probably be elsewhere but it is still a free-ish country if no more than a barely free-ish YT.

Never worry about down-voters. I suspect they just go onto sites about people & things they dislike & click the thumbs down button...nothing better to do poor souls.

I’m glad Alan like me, saw CMBYN as the empty vessel I saw it as. Released at the same time was Gods Own Country, a work of genius on all levels. I would love Alans view on it.
