Yes, the content on this channel is what the world most needs today and is seldom publicized. The core of this channel and its cross-tradition, universal message is contained in the “Life Journey” series; of which Abbot Okumura is one contributor. The “Life Journey” series uses material from some of the greatest teachers living today who are mostly unknown to the popular culture. These sequential cinematic art form modules guide one deeper and deeper into consciousness and the practices of a contemporary contemplative. Mountain Oneness, Yes…Zazen is life transforming. In fact, anytime we find a path allowing us to practice the truth, “We are part of it,” transformation happens. When we become One with the Mountains, life changes; when the In-finite is revealed in the finite, when the Whole is exposed in the particular, when a glimpse of Timelessness is transparent through time, these are the igniting encounters that change life. The meaning of life is, to give life meaning. If this is what one wants. To ask questions, one will have to go on a search for an answer. But if one does not ask questions, one does not have to go and find answers. .... If the wind does not blow, the bell won`t ring and if I am deaf, I can`t hear a sound. ..... Without our senses we cannot experience anything here on this 3d level. Just do what you love and what feels good. When I just go and sit down and think of nothing, make myself go into a space of awareness, without any questions or expectations, I usually get downloads from source. I will have ideas come to me and then I will have to get up immediately and start creating those ideas. Usually the end result is very satisfying and it makes me feel very good. Feeling good is what one could call a "meaningful" goal to have. Blessings from Germany.

This kind of practice seems pure and authentic and coincides with my personal intuition. Traditionally I've been sitting and counting my breaths, but in reality this is attaching to the breath, which can not only seem to escape the coming and going of thought, but masks or overlays the observation of the natural flow, which can be distracting.
@Interiormythos3 жыл бұрын
Anton, Beautiful reflections. Thank you! We also find it helpful to remember the objective of all our interior practices is not necessarily to count or not count the breaths, or anything else. The objective of the solitary practitioner is finally to manage consciousness, not simply when one is sitting, but in all of the encounters and situations of one’s life. Thus, sometimes it is appropriate to count the breaths, if it is helpful, and…sometimes it is appropriate to not count the breaths, if it is helpful. And sometimes it is appropriate to abandon our attachment to all our special practices and simply surrender to the flow of life that bears no self-consciousness of any human-devised method because it enters the depth of consciousness Itself. Beyond…beyond…beyond… Another module on this channel you may wish to encounter is We Are Flow Beings: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWbPoa17eN-kaac

With simplicity Abbot Shohaku Okumra communicates what is most profound - the paradox of reality and how to live with it. Modern Western Philosophy was paraphrased by Noam Chomsky as "Obtain wealth; think of none other than self." How far removed it is from Zen. J.J. Krishnamurti said that it is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society. We don't pay attention to the messages we are getting even in the face of all the pollution we are creating - and we know since the sixties that our way of life is unsustainable. Think of social media as a way to create more "mind," more distraction and addictive behaviours. There is a better way as clearly explicated here by Abbot Shohaku. Many thanks for this beautifully put-together video.

Congrats to the editor, very well cut, subtitled, right lighting and the sound was perfect. It's such a pity to find a lecture by a sage with poor audio. Not that it becomes unusable, but it's certainly distracting. As of contents of this interview, it's overwhelming. I'm speechless.

I’ve always been searching for the meaning of my existence and my life. Still
@Interiormythos3 жыл бұрын
Nhung, Yes…this search for meaning is a lifelong, day by day, pursuit. And…as with everything that is true, the answer is always hidden in paradox. In this case, we discover the meaning of life by not looking for it! This statement is, of course, not true!…but true. DH Lawrence penned the following poem: Those who go searching for love… Only make manifest their own lovelessness… And, the loveless never find love…Only the loving find love…And, they never have to seek for it! If one substitutes the word “meaning” for “love,” one gets a feel after the message. Great video! He said a lot of what I also understood with years of trying to practice and study yoga and later zen vis Kazuki Sekida and Kodo Sawaki's teachings. Last year I could at last visit Japan and I hope I could one day visit the temple or place in US where he is teaching, just to feel myself in a company of people with similar views on life.

Étienne Madore, you are absolutely correct about the “masterpiece” that this module and many others on this channel represent. And, we understand the violation we all experience with the commercialization required to present such material. We resisted releasing the creations of “Interior Mythos Journeys” to KZbin for many years however, 7 months ago we relented and began putting material here because this is where the people are! Thus, we can now share this important message. We are grateful you discovered this channel. We hope you will return often and share your comments freely. There are many videos on this channel. The core teaching is presented in the “Life Journeys” series (check out the Playlists: 49 short videos in this series have been released to date). But logic can make it to debatable thingking, rock is not rock, but a particle of atom that make to a rock. Its make reality change. Its just like the finger, if you focus to logic, you think about the finger, instead of the moon.

I had a strange experience where I suddenly became aware that I'm "not here." There's a body, but there's nothing "inside" my head--it's just mirrors, an organism, feelings, and thoughts. I realized that the thoughts aren't "mine" they are just thoughts. Becoming aware that if "I" was not what I thought but realizing there WAS still the experience of awareness changed how I see things. My mind now wants to get "back" to this understanding and I am constantly tense. I keep seeking knowledge but a part of me things that maybe it's time to focus more on silence and meditation. Too much thinking.

Wow that was so interesting! He's a great speaker 🙏 Are Zen Buddhist monks vegan? He never mentioned anything, just wondering. Also, do we know if it's a complete no-no for a beginner to start practicing zazen with earplugs on? Or is it ok, just not ideal?
@Interiormythos Жыл бұрын
Theodora, we are very grateful you have discovered this special channel and hope you will return often as you evolve your deep personal practice. These are great questions. Please continue to use this platform as a means of deeper dialogue. No, not all Zen Buddhist monks practice a vegan diet. You will find great variance in dietary practices among monastics. Wearing earplugs during practice? Now, this is a deep and interesting question. Please remember that all interior practice has the intent of managing consciousness. Ear plugs, feeding one’s interior with an external source, may defeat the purpose of practice, OR, it may enhance it in some circumstances. We all experience that music can provide the important function as it delivers us “out of our minds!” This is certainly an objective of Zazen. So as with most deep things, it is not entirely one way or another and you and your personal journey provide the ultimate context. You may deeply appreciate an encounter with the Life Journey series, available on the home page of this channel. It provides a sequential, guided, experiential path for the contemporary contemplative practitioner. It can provide a helpful teaching tool for solitary inquiry or group discussion. GO Deep!

Think of each module as a component of daily practice or study like a foundational dharma talk or contemplative catechism. There are currently 49 “Stations.” To advance in becoming a contemplative practitioner, we suggest encountering one sequential module per day or some other regular schedule that works for you. The journey begins with “The Presence.” kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZbOl4Vnn9emodE. This sequential contemplative practitioner journey is an excellent opportunity for solitary inquiry or shared group discussion. We know of no stronger existing guided material to nurture a deep journey in today’s world; for a beginning seeker or a master. The top Comment listed under each module contains a context for the specific video on screen and a link to the next sequential station. We hope to see more comments and reflections from you again soon. We will always attempt to respond. John, thank you for this great question! Abbot Okumura makes clear that to live from this posture only requires that one “return” to the practice BILLIONS of times during the moments of one’s life that make up a lifetime. May we all be humbled by this true perspective and posture. We are grateful you have found this channel. Our world needs contemplative practitioners. A nurturing exercise you may wish to consider is to establish a regular personal practice of viewing the sequential modules of the “Life Journey” series. This interior guided journey nurtures deep solitarily exploration or a meaningful conversation with other practitioners. The series uses material from substantive teachers of depth; including Abbot Shohaku Okumura, Sister Joan Chittister, Kaira Jewel Lingo, Adam Bucko, and many others: East and West. All background music is provided by the cellist who accompanied the Dalai Lama in his public teachings. The initial five Life Journeys are available under the “Playlists” section of the Interior Mythos Journeys KZbin channel and a sixth will be released soon. Post a comment and someone will respond. Avinash, You are correct! And…the perspective a human being can accomplish by pursuing a single objective and practice over 50 years is also amazing. Abbot Okumura is a worthy example for us all. You will find many such worthy teachers on this channel; teachers of depth who have not found their way into the limelight of the popular culture. We hope you will return to this channel often and refer your friends. Please also consider an encounter with: The Practice of Deep Listening kzbin.info/www/bejne/hmXRgmCJfM5kgdk
