Nice review, sir. If you get a chance, I would appreciate a dimension from the back of the grill to the upper lid handle. I have to run my grills through my front door to the back of the house. I can see I would need to remove the fire box handle to get it there, but the upper handle is welded. Thanks.

Howdy Rus. Yuppers Lonstargrillz is fantastic. Next on my wish list is their big Santa Maria. I do need to correct you on one thing here. When talking about the vents you mentioned you could use this as a offset. Well not exactly. When smoking this would be a vertical smoker. But I LOVE my vertical smokers. Including my Lonstargrillz Insulated Vertical Smoker. The cook I want to see is doing pizza 🍕. And what the heck make some fresh baked breads. And pies, cakes etc. Honestly that cooker can be used as a wood burning oven. Making it much more usable than a offset. Anyway great video and have a great day 🌤
@SmokyRibsBBQ2 ай бұрын
Actually there are vertical offset smokers. LSG makes them as well as other brands. This pit with the defuser plates burning wood splits would mimic really any type offset in flavor, but of course I will be putting that to a test. Thanks for watching Victor.
@victorbenner5392 ай бұрын
@SmokyRibsBBQ hello again. Rus I agree that vertical smokers can have similar smoke profiles to offsets. And yes Lonstargrillz does make vertical offsets( I'm sure this really confuses some folks). This cooker has the advantage of being able to smoke without a deflector. My IVS waterpan is not removable meaning I can't get the benefit of all those extra flavors created by not having anything in the way of juices drippings falling to the coals. Offsets regardless of being vertical or horizontal can't do what this cooker your showing can do and that's a good thing for that cooker. I actually prefer to do pork rips on my WSM using a meat hanger and removing the water pan for that extra flavor. These are the reasons we like having more than one cooker because of the many different things we can do with them. As a side note I hope you folks van evade any more hurricanes this season. Good luck.

Love this pit, Russ. So many good options for direct heat cookers, from Hasty Bake to Lone Star to Chud Box to 1904 Pits to Pitts and Spitts Charcoal Grill to TMG pits Dumpster and Rolloff, and so many more. My favorite BBQ is still from direct heat cooking. Did you get rid of your Pitts and Spitts flat top grill?

Thanks for the walk through. I've been eyeing the El Patron for a while. A couple questions, how would you compare it to your Pitt and Spitts adjustable grill and 2, could you use the rotisserie rod to hag meats like ribs, sausage etc? .
@SmokyRibsBBQ2 ай бұрын
The Pitts & Spitts has a larger cooking area but is not as heavy built as the El Patron. I have a stainless griddle for the Pitts & Spitts that they sell. The El Patron doesn't have a griddle top as an option, but it would be easy to do. The El Patron is really a much different cooker than the Pitts & Spitts flattop adjustable grill. There are some similarities such as raising and lowering the fire grate. You seen how versatile the El Patron is and what all it can do. Really depends on what you are looking for in a cooker. You can definitely hang things from the rotisserie rod. I haven't measured the distance to the fire bricks but it should be similar to a drum smoker as far as distance goes.
@MrSdkelly85Ай бұрын
Lone star can add welded slots and rods to hang ribs and sausages. Mine is getting delivered this week. I called to add the slots , it was not an option on their site.

@SmokyRibsBBQ2 ай бұрын
I could go through 10 Hasty Bakes before this one even thought about falling apart. That I promise you. Does Hasty Bake convert to a pizza oven? Do they have a rotisserie?
@gosman9492 ай бұрын
@@SmokyRibsBBQ My Hasty Bake has lasted 40 years and yes you can put a rotisserie in it, and they have just come out with a Pizza oven insert! All of which will still fit in my Hasty Bake Country Clubber! The Lone Star is way over engineered and priced too high. And the freight cost is incredibly high! Hasty Bake still has some loyal dealers out there, so you don't pay freight costs!
@SmokyRibsBBQ2 ай бұрын
@@gosman949 Enjoy your 40 year old Hasty Bake! Shipping is gonna be high for a pit that weighs 450 pounds and shipped on 18 wheelers. Built out of heavy 3/16" steel, 1/2 steel cooking grates, fire bricks, etc. Over engineered? It's a grill not a Mercedes 😂 It's built to last literally forever. Over priced? You get what you pay for. I have never cared much for grills made out of sheet metal, and held together with rivets, bolts and nuts. You call the El Patron a Hasty Bake knock off! Not even close!
