LSG makes great products. I’ve owned their pellet smoker for over a year now, blows away my previous Recteq. Also, I have been running a 50/50 blend of pellets to wood chips ever since Chris started selling the chips, been a game changer as far as getting that “offset” quality smoke from this grill.

Hey Joe, I've had my 42" LSG pellet smoker for about a year and a half. I have about 64 cooks so far. A little advice, close the ball valve when cooking. It allows unnecessary air flow into the chamber. LSG recommends this. Purchase a small 1 or 1/2 gal metal bucket with a handle. Hang it on the ball valve and while your grill is in cool down mode and the grease is still warm let the the grease drain. I honestly only drain mine about every 10(actually more like 20) cooks depending what I'm cooking. Welcome to the club! This is the best purchase I've made in prob 30+ years. This things build quality and customer support is second to none. It will last a lifetime.

Great review Joe! Your going to love this pit! One thing I didn't mention earlier on your live is that when you first start up the pit, it goes into a heat up cycle which will send the temps way above your target temp. This is just to preheat the metal. Once the temps fall back down, it will ride at the target temp. Best pellet grill on the market hands down! Enjoy brother!

Your explanation of the controller board is much more thorough than other videos. Thank you Joe! I would suggest starting your seasoning temp at 175 just to be safe. My controller initially had wide temperature variations from the set point and the grill temperature, and I had to shut mine down on my first attempt before it got too high (290!). I started with a lower temperature on my second try and observed temperature differences of over 50 degrees, but noticed the controller got better over time and mention because they don’t always work perfectly the first time. Can’t wait for my first cook!

I'd recommend a trick I learned in a Dave Ramsey course. Get a small fireproof safe/lock box, a Mason jar, and an envelope. Every time you get change, put it in the jar. When the jar is full, bring it to your bank and exchange it for cash. Take the cash, put it in an envelope and stick it in the lock box. When you have enough to buy into a CD, do it and don't touch it. Once the CD matures, drop it into an interest bearing savings account. Keep doing it. If you have an extra few bucks at the end of the month, seed the savings. Delay your gratification until you've saved enough to buy one of these things.

Hey Joe! I've had my 42" for about a year and I can't even describe how much I love it! The smoke it produces with any pellet--and especially the Smokin' Pecan is as close to an offset as you can get. The obvious ask would be to smoke a brisket or a pork butt. How about something that cooks faster so you can really see how much smoke is imparted into the protein? One of my favorites is spatchcocked chicken, cornish hens, pork tenderloin or tri-tip.. It always produces a ton of smoke flavor on shorter cooks. Try it. You'll like it! 🙂

Though I do not own any Lone Star Grillz products, at least yet, I think they build the best products in the industry. Unlike many "tin can" smokers built overseas, their grills are brutes that are built to last. Finally there appears to be a pellet grill that rivals offsets in smoke quality. I hope that you will try the pellet/wood chip mixture to see how close the smoke and flavor will come to an offset, yet still offer the "set it and forget it" advantage of a pellet smoker.

Hello Joe- Would really like to see a detailed video on maintenance with what frequency is required for each aspect: grease, ash , fire pot, etc. As to the FireBoard, I've been using mine for 6 years including the fan controller to run my Bronco and my Big Joe. It is without equal at maintaining temperatures. Look closely at the Sessions in the app. It creates your personal cookbook and you can insert notes and photos into every cook. Simply amazing! Well, Brisket of course! 😂 Congrats on the LSG purchase Joe. If you still have your Yoder YS1500, I'd love to see a Brisket showdown between the two. I couldnt wait the 4 months for an LSG to arrive, so I chose the Recteq 2500 BFG... its rival. And yes the BFG puts out as much smoke or more than the LSG with the proper customizable feedrates... and the BFG has a 53 lb. Hopper!! 😂 Both are great units with a price difference. I may still buy a LSG and have them both. I only mention this... not to say anything bad about LSG, because there is nothing bad to say except the wait time... but my hope is one of these days you'll do a cook off showdown between the LSG and the BFG. That would be epic 😂. The BFG is 2500 inches of cook space with an option of adding a 4th rack for 3500 inches of cooking... you can legit do 15 briskets on the BFG... the time for a BBQ throwdown between the two units is here. You are the man to get the fair comparison done. 🎉🎉🎉🎉 Again, Congrats on the LSG, I'm looking forward to seeing your cooks on it. Smoke On Joe!!

I know you had been a big fan of the Yoder in the past. I was somewhat between the two when I got my Yoder last year but for me it's just up the road from where I live so I could pick it up directly and support local. Just curious what your thoughts are now that you've had the LSG versus your experience with the Yoder.
@SmokinJoesPitBBQАй бұрын
Both are really great smokers. LSG does have more features than Yoder in relation to the controller. The design of the LSG produces much more smoke than Yoder and the bark production is greater on the LSG. The large hopper is great plus the pellet dump on the LSG is nice too.

Hello Joe! Long time follower and enjoy your insights. I have two Lone Star Grillz including this pellet smoker. Only problem I’ve had is the actual temp in the smoker doesn’t come close to the controller. The controller is 50 degrees hotter than the actual temp on the cooker. Very frustrating
@SmokinJoesPitBBQ4 ай бұрын
I would remove the Thermometer and calibrate it. If that doesn't work, you can adjust the controller to match your Guage. 👍
@pawpawstew4 ай бұрын
From what I'm reading on the LSG owners Facebook group, the variance is due to the location of the sensor for the controller vs. the location of the dial thermometer. The controller sensor is said to be more accurate, so perhaps the ticket is to put the controller probe as close as possible (or even clipped to) the dial thermometer, and use that to then calibrate the dial to the controller reading. I've also heard of folks validating the controller probe by sticking it in boiling water, which will always be 212°F at sea level.
