Drew, I've noticed you've been acquiring a lot of brown furnishings lately. Years ago, like 30 years ago, I read an article that said colors pertain to your mood, how you are feeling about life. Counter to what I would have thought, I remember the writer said brown was popular or trending when one is feeling satisfied with life. Happy. I guess it's true, because you seem so happy since finding your house.

The horizontal "jug" you found (6:50) with the cork screw plug is actually an old fashioned bed warmer. Put hot water in it and place it under the covers at the foot of the bed to warm your feet on cold nights. I actually have one! Great find! 💙

The pot before them is marked “Stone” because it is “ STONEWARE” type of clay. Highly fired and rugged. The black pot is probably “Raku” or pit- fired in an ember- filled pit, often with straw, which gives the burnt orangey touches. All great finds.

There is something so refreshing and inspiring about seeing you hunt for antiques, unique items, and things you aren’t trying to directly monetize from. I’m so sick of influencers shoving swipe ups down our throats. Sick of the same retailers and same pieces showing up in different iterations of home design feeds. And I think a lot of people are! So I hope you stay true to yourself and keep doing this style of decorating because it is one million times more interesting (and better for the environment!).

Hi Drew! If might add they are artisanal cloths made by the Kuba tribe in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kuba_textiles). I suggest you do not cut what you call the table runner, you might take the risk of causing damage to it. You can't treat it like it's wax or kinte print fabric. Drew - you and Brittany were very lucky for an overcast morning for Long Beach Flee Market. You are attracted to tribal, Moroccan and 1930's vintage- and that represents a wonderful exciting moment in history - 1930's with PAN AMERICAN airlines people start traveling the globe, National Geographic Magazine is published, the traditional handcrafts of Africa, Arabia, Morocco and Spain ( carpets, leather, glass) start to show-up in America, UK, Paris and FILM NOIR is all about this decor. You could call this decorative vibe ' global safari' because it's about travel: choosing the unusual and may be even the dangerous path to travel hunting for treasure. DO some virtual time travel with Humphrey Bogart and Peter Lorre in the 'Maltese Falcon'( the yacht !) and 'Casablanca' for the sets

@@katewade9992 'solid wood' is misnomer - the buffet console that Drew is considering using as a vanity to hold a sink is actually constructed of lighter weight mixed pieces of soft wood- it is not 'hard wood ' which is heavy and dense. I bought a Helix mattress this spring and found it didn't work for me (I love my "Big Fig" mattress - as in big figure). Helix made it so easy to return their mattress. A local person (by day he's a nurse) came to pick it up. He spread a sheet of plastic on my driveway, placed the twin mattress in it, folded it in half and "gift wrapped" it, then took it to a Habitat for Humanity charity. I was refunded my money quickly. Turns out big figures prefer a much firmer mattress. So fun to watch the bed in a box expand. Helix let me keep the two free pillows. They're very lofty.

Hi Drew, I am Turkish and I think your sink isn't a sink but the stone traditionally laid in front of manual water pumps, to get water from wells. That's why the hole is on the side, they laid those on the ground

Hi Drew - I so enjoyed shopping with you! Especially got a kick out of the stoneware jug you bought. Very popular in the Southeast where I grew up, they’re called moonshine jugs or moonshine whiskey jugs.

I hope the weight of the sink isn't too much for your beautiful vanity. Loved what you got at the flea market. You probably know this, but many cultures make an intentional flaw in their rugs and tapestries to show that we mortals aren't perfect, only God.

Long Beach has a bunch of great vintage and antique stores as well. The prices for Cali are really good and being from the Midwest where vintage prices are generally lower, I did not die of sticker shock.

Drew, just an FYI that the first small asymmetrical rug you showed looks to be an Islamic prayer rug. The user would point it (the narrow part of the design) towards Mecca when rolling it out to pray. I have a few prayers rugs that my father brought over from Iran. If you don’t know Spain’s Moorish history, it might fun for you to research that and its design influence on the country. A lot of the pieces you are picking would go well with it.

The hard case plastic doll head that would spin was a Hedda Get Bedda doll. It had a soft fabric body and was from about the mid 1960's. I used to have one as a child. The round ceramic with a cork was a bed warmer or also used as a foot warmer. Just put hot water in it!

@@flyfaraway111 that IS a prayer mat. The smaller square-sh part is called the mihrab and is placed facing the direction of Mecca. (Conversations like this is why I think the history of religions should still be taught in school.)
