Loneliness Abroad: My Experience Moving to Greece

Boom, you nailed it again my friend. Feeling conflicted as an immigrant is REAL. Yes you have achieved your goal and dream of living in another place but you get there and whether you manage to assimilate or not is another matter. As a Greek British now living in Canada with my Canadian wife having lived also with my in-laws, I can testify that it is not easy. And I have also lived in Anglophone Canada! It makes you realize what forced migrants like refugees and asylum seekers go through especially with needing to learn another language. Anyways my friend, you speak from the heart as always. I think its about reaching out, like you say. Get out of your comfort zone. I lived overseas and in other new areas. Over time Ive learned to join groups, volunteer, support the community...even text in the online group in your area wth a friendly open msg. Feel like meeting up for a coffee? Im new to your lovely village and dont know a soul. Etc. Make it you mission to engage wth people and youll be humming in 6 months. Notveveryones ideal..but you pick those that resonnate and youll soon have 2 or 3 good friends

How an expat can be lonely in Greece ? I can understand in Nothern countries but in Greece ?

I am half greek and i still feel that way in greece. Its alot different when u ar living there, than when u are a tourist and everyone sucks up to u for money

Greeks use to be friendly but not anymore. They're very friendly if you have a lot of money.
