Listening to very intelligent people… regardless of their politics-makes me sad. Cos it seems their knowledge and ideas exist in the context of intellectual anarchy.
@jdebono2910 сағат бұрын
Can you please elaborate? What do you mean by Intellectual Anarchy? That seems to me to be a desirable state of affairs so I assume I’m misinterpreting your intended meaning of the concept.
@3brenm9 сағат бұрын
@jdebono29 i think they mean we're in a bit of a post truth age, especially on the internet, where all opinions and ideas are treated as equal and valid regardless of education, experience, expertise, rationality or the scientific method, and subjectivism, tribalism and identity politics seem to be gaining ground on both sides of the political spectrum. So it's nice to hear well thought out ideas. Anarchy means more freedom, which is good in some ways, but less of anything actually gets done or is agreed upon because there's always another 'intellectual/religious/political Guru' to debunk or reaction to reaction to reaction popping up over and over again, leaving us somewhat rudderless in a sea of never ending conflicting 'facts' and narratives. Anarchy is a double edged sword. For example, why in the world do we still have to waste time and energy arguing with young earth creationists and Islamic fanaticists. It's depressing, but that's a price we pay for intellectual freedom.
@AS-tn6ev7 сағат бұрын
@@3brenm Yes. Anarchy implies ‘no heirarchy’. And while everyone gets a chance to broadcast opinions (that delight the reptilian brain), the ideas and conclusions of those who have devoted decades of critical study to topics get lost in the melee. Podcasters are personable and can be informative - but no substitute for the likes of Yanis Varoufakis (on what’s left of the left), Niall Ferguson on the right, Jeffrey, Sachs, John Mearsheimer, etc. These are scholars whose opinions vary widely - but they are grounded in years of consideration. And the same thing is happening in the arts. Anyway, anarchy is fertile ground for extremists on both sides. And I fear it will end badly. Thanks for reflecting on my comment.

Sorry but this moron loses all credibility when he says that cutting government waste in Argentina is bad. Socialism doesn't work. I read Varoufakis book and now I'm questioning if he even understands why his own country, under his leadership, went down the toilet. Wealth HAS TO BE CREATED. It is not a standard thing. The standard is abject poverty. In nature you work or you die. You create value or there is no value. Milei is cutting the public sector (parasites who can ONLY buy definition extract wealth from the system) and giving private industry an opportunity to exist. And inflation has come down from 140% to 2.4% in one year of his leadership. So Varoufakis can go back to Greece and preach his communist bullshit to people who are still suffering the effects of using other people's credit cards till they ran out of other people's cash.

Can you imagine how poor a country is after the USD is being manipulated since 1960? For example, Indonesia - not my country. In 1969, 1 USD = Rp 7.5. Today, 1 USD = Rp 16,000. Indonesia GDP currently is USD 5,247/year per person. This mean in local currency, it is USD 5,247x Rp 16,000 = Rp 84 million/year/head. Now, if the USD is not being manipulated and 1 USD = Rp 7.5, Rp 84 million should be Rp 84 million/Rp 7.5 = USD 1.03 million/year Can you see now? Rp 84 million GDP only worths USD 5,247 rather than USD 1.03 million.

Because the USD has been and is the backbone of trade, everything (mostly) is pinned to USD. The world will talk less about America when/if BRICS dethrones the USD. I'm not American, and I live in a BRICS bloc country and I do not think that dethroning the USD is a good idea. BRICS is run by autocrats. So, now we have technocracy in the US and that isn't good either.
