UPDATE: We tried to update the video and its causing temporary processing/syncing issues. We're reaching out to KZbin to get it fixed. Think it should be fixed relatively soon. ADDITIONAL UPDATE: We're going to talk about it in today's show. Colleen Ballinger's team reached out regarding the iTunes and the copyright allegations and said: "Ms. Ballinger did not upload the video/song to Apple Music, or to any other streaming platform, for sale, or for any other purpose. Ms. Ballinger has not monetized the video/song in any way. We don’t know how it got published on those platforms. It was done without Ms. Ballinger’s knowledge or authorization, and we have taken measures to have the content removed. Likewise, Ms. Ballinger has not issued any copyright infringement claims to channels that featured the video/song."

I had to take my 13 year old daughter out of public school and start homeschooling her last year because her bullying was so severe. The bullies were telling her daily to unalive herself and when that started causing her to have meltdowns during class, the only thing the school did was call me to tell me that they were worried about her mental health and accuse her of making up the bullying stories. So much for the state of Utah, with one of the highest teen unaliving rates in the nation... putting her on homeschool was the best thing we ever did for her. This was the first year she ended the year with good grades and her mental health is so much better. I couldn't believe just how much the school was unwilling to help her out. Bullying is real and no one wants to actually do anything meaningful to fix things. This whole "not my kid" has gotten so much worse since I was a kid myself.

As a teacher in the state of Utah, I'm scared for our kids. You're right, the governor and the state don't care. As long as we don't have a shooting, the year is a win in their minds.

In regards to Shane's dilemma, I can not stress enough just how important my local hobby store was for weird kids like myself to find each other and make friends. It broke my heart when it closed shop, and unfortunately that is a major trend amongst brick and mortar hobby stores. Kids would be there EVERY day, and you'd think business would be booming. But since I was friends with the owners son, I got to peek behind the curtain and knew they were just barely sustaining themselves on snack sales. They'd entertain children all day for free, barely make even on tcg pack sales and tournament entry prices, and never became bitter when they couldn't sustain the business anymore. They are honestly heroes in my eyes, and it's made me think is there SOME WAY to get local government to like subsidize hobby stores? For so long as it was seen as the "unhealthy alternative" to physical hobbies, but honestly is it not better to have some kids hang out and play cards in the meat space, then to sit em infront of a screen all day. If anyone read my soap box tirade and knows how to go abouts bringing this to my local governments attention and how to organize something like this in some way, genuinely would be interested in hearing from you!

Not just hobby stores too, any public places kids can be for free. Unfortunately a lot of the hobby spaces are hostile to some groups of people/monitorities or are just not everyone's thing. But everywhere from the library to knitting groups to internet cafe's have the potential to be amazing social spaces for kids and adults. But they're not profitable and everything is about money money money. We need places we can just exist together in public. It's essential to our health.

When the allegations first surfaced in 2020 she tried to minimise/blow off (largely successfully at the time) by saying the accuser was just doing it to monetise and should be ignored. Now that many more accusers have come forward with receipts (including a person who was being groomed by Colleen's brother when they were 13 and he was over 30 which warrants police involvement on the face of it) and Colleen's non apology video is monetized, makes her 2020 comment seem hypocritical. Of course it should be said there are much more serious/important issues in this whole saga(child welfare). Also today apparently Colleen's lawyers said she and her team didn't monetise the video and don't know who did (someone did), complicating it even more!

Oh Shayden's story hit a lot closer to home than I was expecting on this Tuesday. I am just a stranger on the internet but I am proud of him for not only for distancing himself from those bullies but also still trying to make new friends. That takes a lot of courage and humility, which I wish I'd had at that age. I was bullied quite a bit from middle school until my senior year. It didn't help I grew up in a small town so I knew the same people all through school. I didn't realize how bad it actually was until I was an adult and telling my mom about some "wacky" thing that they did to me. She had no idea I was treated that way by some of my friends. It ended up causing a lot of problems for me once I moved away for university. I was awkward and cagey and had a hard time trusting people. I spent my first year there pretty much alone. It's telling I was much happier alone than I was around my former friends.

That story about the kid broke my heart. I've been there, and hearing him say "I need some friends, like really bad" in such an exasperated voice just reminded me of when I had fully given up and just truly needed help. That kid was at his breaking point and I just hope he makes some friends from this, but it doesn't change the fact that millions of kids will have his exact same experience but no one will ever hear their story and it seems like the kid's aware of that. Such an insanely mature kid, it took me almost 20 years to finally ask for help like that.

That kid has so much guts. He has something a lot of people wish they had. Humility, honest-he is honestly my hero. Like, I find it hard to say the words " I need friends". Instead, I have acted like I don't actually care at all ..nope, i'm just too cool. And I think a lot of people do that. They are afraid to open themselves up. I think the gofund me is great-because adults aren't able to be the friends he needs so I mean-the money can go towards other things kids need to thrive. I have no doubt that he will find other kids to be friends with. He has a great personality. Anyone would be lucky to be his friend.

The story about Shayden Walker breaks my heart because this is a wide spread issue. As a Mom, I am blown away at how much things have changed since I was a kid. Kids used to be able to walk outside and meet a plethora of other kids to play with. That is no longer the case where I live. There are ZERO kids outside in our neighborhood and I live in the suburbs. I feel so sad for my own kids because there is no one to play with at all. The nearby park is empty most of the time. If they want to see friends in person we have to set up a “play date” which means I have to make awkward small talk with another mom. I will do it for them but it sucks.

I feel so bad for Shayden. It's heartbreaking to see bullying happen to someone through no fault of their own. I know that his generation is struggling to make friends more than ever. Hate to throw in a "back in my day", but you used to be able ride your bike down a few blocks, see some kids playing, and ask if you can join in. You can't do that anymore. Either parents are being overprotective or kids just stay inside with electronics. We've got to do more for the kids of this generation or they're going to end up more isolated and alone.

For the kid that wanted friends, money actually can help a lot. As a mother of ASD kids, money helps a lot. You can enroll them in holiday programs, after school groups and sports, friendship skills groups with SLT. There's a lot of help that money can offer when it comes to finding and keeping friends. I very much relate to the kid looking for friends. I went to private school for 1st - 6th grade and it was horrible. Honestly it was just flat out emotional abuse. The bullying I experienced directly contributed to an eating disorder that has lasted for almost 25 years at this point. I'm still not healed from that. Kudos to that kid for being so brave. At his age I was starting antidepressants due to a constant urge to self delete. Kids would say they wished I was unalive when we were 8. It sucked.

Ugh same. I would never judge the go fund me donors but instead a game system (more isolation) I would’ve invested in say non-athletic community events for kids; Lego clubs, kid game nights: things kids can do for low costs and make friends. I moved in 2019 to a new state and have only now started to make new friends…I met my newest close friends in a Pokémon Go raid. The reality is that even in kid heavy neighborhoods the fear of other people keeps parents from allowing their kids to meet new people and socialize . I doesn’t always work out (this kid for example) but some times a kid a few years above or below has a same hobby and you end up with a lasting friendship.

As a Mom I just cried at that first story because my youngest is going through this right now big time. He's struggling with his ADHD and understanding that not every single person he meets wants to be his best friend but on the flip side to that, despite being extremely friendly, he doesn't have any friends. The two kids that were supposedly his best friends would tease him constantly just to get a reaction and then when he'd finally had enough the one kid would apologize and say they're still friends, just to turn around and verbally hurt my son's feelings again. The second kid has resorted to physically hurting him to a point where I had to remove both my sons from their bus route, rearrange my whole day to get my sons to and from school, and the school did nothing to the other child even with proof. All of this just because my youngest wants friends....wants someone to want to hang out with him, talk with him, and play games with. It's heartbreaking to see another kid go through something like this. This sweet boy deserves the world and then some.

I find the argument "That's just your opinion" is not really an argument at all but rather a blatant unwillingness to recognize and accept a given definition as standard. Any normal human who hears the phrase "White nationalist" will think "Nazi". Whether that pertains to any given country isn't in question, white nationalist isn't a descriptor solely for Americans it's a descriptor for people who believe that one particular race is superior. And, quite frankly, the military has had a great deal of problems with people affiliated with that belief system entering and becoming problematic. We don't want to be training and handing weapons to a group of people who find anyone to be different to be inferior, that definitely leads to added issues down the line. The military has to maintain a standard, just like the police (though arguably there's been many failures on both sides) in order to keep the trust of common folk. If you're not white, can you trust a white nationalist military to protect you in times of war? Anyway, as far as my little rant goes, I find that senator to be completely useless, idiotic, and downright dangerous. He's doing his utmost to derail the military, and the power and ability he has to do it is astonishing and horrifying.

Seriously, I grew up with an abusive father who told me - every single day from the age of 6 to 16 (when I moved out) that I was worthless and unloved. Every day, and I remember that because the one day it occurred to me that he hadn't said anything bad to me all day - he walked into the room and told me I was a fat, worthless, piece of shit, and then just walked back out. His male friends were much the same, some of them (adults) bullying me right in front of him, with his encouragement. So, when I went to school, I was not emotionally prepared for more bullying. That is, however, what I got. Being emotionally fragile, the other kids picked on me, outcast me, and treated me like an ongoing joke. I was, quite literally, that monstrously bullied kid you see in every Stephen King movie. Between the two, it destroyed my mental health and I am incapable of normal relationships, of trusting others, and romantic attachment (I'm fairly sure my uncle tried to molest me, but I rebuffed him enough that it didn't escalate). I'm sure the bullies would be happy to hear of the outcome. The point being: The people you bully are probably so 'weird' for a reason and you can never know what that is.
