What a beautiful tone Marshall had! Nestico's writing, too, was excellent. Basie's band, through every period, was incredible! And his longest-serving member, Freddie Green, can be clearly heard here.

His singing, rhapsodic style is so different to Bird and the other alto bebop players but they are both lovely ways to play and such a nice contrast.
