The weather is the part that got me the most. With my inherent sense of direction is already bad, I once try to traverse from the cave beside the climbing rope, to the valley homestead in a nasty blizzard, only to find myself back at same cave again 10 min later in pleasant valley. I can totally see why Grey mother says that people die in the blizzard steps away from their door step. I would be one of those people. Lol

Haha even when you KNOW where you are and where you're going, nasty weather can still mess you up.

I did literally die on my doorstep from hypothermia. That was the worst. Inch’s from being saved and then.....”you faded into the long dark”

Got lost in PV a number of times during Blizzards. Very near misses with finding shelter or kindling a fire to ward off death. I started to pick up on the signs and stay out of the way of the weather, because while you think you can navigate successfully, the most probably answer is you'll make some error and compound it. Other regions are much kinder.
@promaxmedia7 Жыл бұрын
Fr, my sense of navigation is actually decent but I was playing last night and was at the barn off the road going from pleasant valley to keeper’s path and I swear the barn was JUST behind me when the blizzard hit and it took me a good 5 minutes to find it

Weather always changes on me while I'm in the middle of a time-eating task. Like repairing clothes, skinning a kill, or even just applying a bandage. I've never noticed the crows though, I'll pay attention for them.
@PrincessShiloh5 жыл бұрын
This helps. I had no idea the crows told you the weather was gonna change!? 😅
@Lonelywolfofficial5 жыл бұрын
Glad it does! As I've said, the video after the next one in the series (I think?) should tie all of this early or beginner knowledge together in a nice bundle so that it's easier to move on into advanced tactics and such. Crows that just circle animals don't help with understanding the weather, but the crows that fly overhead in a line above you, 3-5 of them, they indicate an impending change in weather.
@Coffeeandacigarette4 жыл бұрын
Shoot I heard the crows with the different cawing and thought there were predators but it wasn't as intense as then. Sure enough, a snow storm followed about 5 minutes later

I’m probably a few years to late to help you but I’m not confident that he’s right. I’ve kept track a bit myself and haven’t found any clear correlation. It does feel like they predict a difference at times but I think there’s good chance that we’re more likely to remember the times they do predict the weather than the times they don’t. I’ve tried looking around on the internet and I’m pretty sure the developer said that they didn’t mean anything but believe what makes you happy

I've heard that staying in one region for a long time will make the weather gradually worse, but can be reset by going to another region for a few days then back. this is presumably taking into account the gradual worsening of weather globally in the long dark. Q: is this the case??
@Lonelywolfofficial5 жыл бұрын
I've not done a lot of testing on that but my gut instinct would say no, that's not really a thing. I feel that's more perceived than actual.
@sleepyproduction7166 Жыл бұрын
My sense of direction is great, in real life as well, it’s hard to get lost because I remember details. What kills me the most? Weather, and not just the weather, but ‘I think I can stone that rabbit and get back in time before my infection and hypothermia kills me’ or ‘I seen a green maple sapling over that hill, I can make it there and back before it gets to cold’ it always kills me.
@Xantippee5 жыл бұрын
I've heard some people say on streams the amount of weather crows correspond to the amount of hours it takes for the weather to change. I personally am not sure this is actually the case. Do you know if there is any merit to that? On early interloper especially, a blizzard can actually be advantageous. There normally aren't any predators out during a blizzard so it allows you to run around looting places, or get, for example, from Desolation Point to Coastal Highway, without the risk of running into wolves. I also heard that blizzards used to wreck your clothing a lot more, or even ruin them, than currently is the case. I do see some wind damage, but it's pretty minimal comparatively. As an aside, I just did some beach combing and you do not get instant hypothermia anymore when you fall through the ice. Makes it a bit easier to do. :-)

I'll have to do some testing with the number of crows and see but last I saw, which admittedly was quite some time ago, several updates, the code just randomized the number of crows. There was no link. That may have changed but who knows, in need of testing.
@Fuar115 жыл бұрын
The crows have no link whatsoever. The only reason why they seem to have a link is because the weather changes so often and crows fly over often as well.

Wildlife will not despawn from the map if the blizzard starts when you're outside. If you're inside when the game changes the weather to a blizzard, then wildlife will be absent. HOWEVER, you should know that the game changes the weather to "blizzard" some time before the actual blizzard starts. So, be careful. Wolves might still be about.

It would have been helpful to learn about the duration of different weather patterns - especially blizzards, even if just a general sense. Do blizzards never last longer than X time? do they never last longer than X? etc.

Weather crows?!?! I never knew about them being useful, thanks!
@Lonelywolfofficial5 жыл бұрын
Sadly they have been 'removed.' According to Hinterland they were never supposed to be weather crows, however extensive testing revealed that they only came as weather was changing. This functionality was changed at some point and now the crows are randomized. It was a good tip back when they worked but now, not so much.

What do you do when you're stuck inside during a blizzard?
@swiftbuddy88783 жыл бұрын
Pass time if you have the resources (food and water), research books, craft, repair, or destroy items you may need to fix/restock on (cloth, bandages,etc)
@anthonyanderson97713 жыл бұрын
@@swiftbuddy8878 Hey! Thank you for the reply. By research books, you mean rereading the skill pamphlets? I'm doing the episodes while I get situated in the game. This mode seems to auto-update with each book I come across. Is that different within survival mode?

if you have the fuel for it, start a fire and cook tea, coffee, water. you can stalk up on water and it’s not a waste of your day. or you can cook all of your teas and coffee.

What happened at 07:10 ?? Is that a bug that kills you and ends your run?
@Lonelywolfofficial5 жыл бұрын
This is indeed a bug and no, does not end the run. Just dumps you back up at a random point, usually the last entrance point to the map. So if you left an ice cave and entered the map there, and then fell through the map later, it might bump you back to there. It's a pretty rare bug and I don't find it often, and was surprised to have it show up here!
