I interpret this song as Yellow constantly and purposefully sabotaging Pink's chance at happiness and sheltering her from the world to make her dependent on her. Pink loses her grip on her emotions and begins resenting Yellow. Yellow-recognizing that she can't manipulate Pink anymore-leaves her for good, broken and abandoned.

I think this song is about a toxic mother-daughter relationship, the lyrics from the mother's perspective as she sees her daughter becoming independent and distant. In the song she blames her daughter for everything, but it turns out the mother is unknowingly describing herself and the damage she does to her own kid
Whoever does the fancy english captions I just want to let you know I am your biggest fan they are so high quality you are amazing

Thank you for the translation! Could I ask what is the purpose of the base64 encoded "BIRTHDAY"? My best guess is that the string of kanji that appears at the same time is some kind of cipher.

@@plesleron Holy smokes, I noticed your comment just now... Yes, you're right, the kanji that appears at the same time reads ばーすでー (birthday) when decoded.
I like how the H in the beginning is yellow, as if joy and hope and happiness is still in her, but by the end of the song when she is an adult, it's blue, as if it's representing that she has grown sad and depressed
personally i see this song as being about someone who resents their younger self. if it was from the pink girl's perspective, the "i'm a worthless, heartless grown up" part wouldn't make sense. but if it was from the older woman's perspective, a lot of the visuals (like in the chorus) wouldn't make sense. so that's why i think it's both. "i finally realized you're no longer here." "you've snatched those opportunities away from me time and time again." "because you're leaving for good, i will be lost forevermore. how will you make it up to me?" "i heard the sound of my future breaking, being stabbed into with a fork from above." "you see now? it's all your fault. that's all there is to it, understand?" "with just one earbud tuned in, i can't stop hearing your (immature, repugnant, sickeningly jarring) cute voice." "looking at your big, smiling eyes through the picture frame is the worst kind of goodbye." these lyrics strike me as someone mourning their childhood innocence. blaming themselves. "if i hadn't been so naive, this wouldn't have happened to me." another thing i saw being pointed out is that the two of them are never on-screen at the same time. that's what made me start thinking of it like that.

I love this interpretation a lot! I originally thought this was about someone coming out of an abusive relationship with a lover, but this seems much more on the nose

I saw a Japanese person pointing out that the adult was probably the younger girl's mom. At the start of the mv, the girl painted the apple red, but the woman painted over it with yellow. Someone said this was the woman telling the girl that she's still a child(ripe apples are red, whilst unripe ones are yellow) This might be about a mom not accepting her child is going to be an adult soon, which is why she "snatches" those opportunities from her. Then, the girl got a boyfriend and finally got her independence, hence the phrase "seeing your big, smiling eyes in the picture frame is the worst kind of goodbye" with the girl smiling with a man. The mom was afraid this would happen, so at the start she would take away the girl's freedom and happiness.

I also thought both of the girls are the same person! But Instead of the adult girl resenting her younger self I thought It was more of the younger girl resenting her adult self, because i thought the younger girl is just a representation of what she could've been but she robbed of herself from being anything like that from the line "Every time my positives overcome the negatives, you toss them in the trash and do it over." A the end of the song she says goodbye to what she yearned to be and as her last birthday request from her younger self is to just end herself that is a Happy Heavenly Birthday.
レミミヨプシプシプシヘィのところ、push upの“Let me be your pusher, pusher, pusher, ey”であることは分かった上で空耳から妄想してみる Let me in your プシュ、プシュ、プシュケーって聴こえる気がしてる。
