I still don't get it. I was 19 and dumb too but I never invested this much of my identity in global politics nor did I take a bunch of staunch stances on it based on surface level information that I knew I was never going to look deeper into. I might have had thoughts occur in my head that resemble this kid's but it was always followed by the next thought which was, "I probably don't know everything and would likely be humiliated and laughed out of the room if I was ever confronted by someone who knows more." I'm a musician and I fell out of my local underground music scene because of how young it skews and how the politically charged segment of it wields their convictions like a cudgel against bands they don't like. The Las Vegas scene is ALL highschool - college freshmen Hasan viewers. It's dumb kids with Soviet patched winter hats (like the hat Kyle wears in South Park), and hammer and sickle stickers on their Instagram bios. The frontwoman from one of the biggest local bands out here started booking shows and called her promotion group "Pravda Productions." I don't know if it's like this in the underground arts scenes in all college towns but from where I'm standing, what Hasan is doing to kids is super obvious.

Because he probably is. The whole reason this propaganda works on these kids is because emotionally charged slogans, chants, and heuristics tickle their righteous spot. It makes them feel like noble warriors; the feel like they're part of "the good" in a war of good vs evil, the same way evangelical christianity does.
