This song describes my father perfectly as his role as a stay-at-home dad. He was always trotting my brothers and I out for meals, sports events, etc, while my mother worked as a registered nurse. Life was a struggle for us at times but we made it on top. I'd give anything to hear or see my daddy again. He passed away 2 years ago this past January 24.

You want to know what's so funny? Your story is almost exactly like mine. My dad was usually a stay-at home dad, and my mom also worked as a registered nurse. The only difference is that my dad was very good at what he did. It was still a struggle at times, though. Too bad they ended up getting divorced later on in life. But at least they're both alive and well.

Well, I'm crying. I've been Mr. Mom for two years now. My life was this song when I lost my job two years ago. Severe depression was setting in and my relationship with my SO and my kids was nearing a breaking point. I couldn't get call backs despite so many places hiring. My self worth had tanked. My SO ended up getting a job before me, and thus our roles had flipped. Becoming Mr. Mom may have saved my life. Couple that with the fact that country was my late grandfather's favorite genre, and I might be a little emotional lol. Man, the memories this song brings back. It's crazy how a silly song like Mr. Mom can illicit such a response.
@alexb43313 жыл бұрын
But why is it being mr. mom and not just being a dad?
@TherealRNOwwfpooh3 жыл бұрын
@@alexb4331 Long-established traditional gender roles are that Dad provides stability (and also, handles money) meanwhile Mom is the doting housewife/raiser of children. Here, the roles are flipped & at the time this song hit, stay-at-home fathers were still rare to most families, hence the joke term "Mr. MOM", since Dad is doing what Mom's meant to do in a standard marriage.
