When I was little in the 80's and early 90's, this was the highlight of a trip to IAH!

It was still a bit of a highlight for me last year, taking the skyway to terminal D checkin from the parking lot due to all of this construction. Hopefully this means that terminal D won’t be so much of a shed anymore?

Yes holy shit. I got delayed to here coming back from Spain because of a storm in Dallas and went in here and it was so fukin backroom-esk. I was so creeped out but yet I thought it was fukin sick

It's intriguing to me because it looks like an office rather than a terminal. Looks like an unusual place to put a tram in. ❤

This is such a cool and special system. It is useful, functional and under appreciated.

i have a united flight from jacksonville fl arriving in houston, then houston to san diego with an hour layover in houston obviously. is an hour enough to make my connecting flight? i assume ill use this people mover
@JJR935 ай бұрын
Important thing to remember, the underground People Mover (subway) is OUTSIDE security while the Skyway above is AFTER the TSA security checkpoint. If you need to use the Currency Exchange to buy foreign currency before your flight, those are all AFTER security, so you'll want to use the Skyway, NOT this subway.

This people mover is helpful if you land at one terminal but your checked bags are off-loaded at a different terminal.

Does anyone know how the doors work, since there is no onboard power?
@konnimusic2 жыл бұрын
theres a great video by technology connections that goes into a lot of details on how the doors work. basically its a small hook that grabs onto the door of the carriage so when the platform doors open, the vehicle doors get opened with them / by them. disney had to jump a lot of hoops to make a train system without any power source on the vehicles work.

I heard there are plans to replace this system. Or get rid of it altogether. I do hope it stays a little longer.
@LonestarYT3 жыл бұрын
I hope they replace it with something a little more functional, but who knows, it may just not be practical to have anymore.
@elevatingthemidwest23792 жыл бұрын
I bet they would add moving walkways or something if they were gonna get rid of this train altogether despite the potential of it having low maintenance costs. But I hope a lot more people will recognize that this is a dream that Walt had, that made it into the real world at least once.

9/11 caused the use of this subway to drop way down. It's not as fast and easy to have to hope between terminals when TSA screening takes so long.
@cats400 Жыл бұрын
This exists outside of the sterile area. I don’t know what your point is. The skyway is inside the sterile area and that would be used for when inside the sterile area to move between terminals
@mar91942 Жыл бұрын
@@cats400 my point? This was huge back in the day for getting between terminals. This was there long before the skyway was and getting between terminals meant taking the subway or walking outside between buildings.
