Hey fam, for those who have downloaded the epic games version, simply use the Fallout anniversary patcher mentioned in the video and you'll be able to use the script extender. For all intents and purposes, it's like the Steam version, so make sure you do all the fixes I recommend in this video for the Steam version too.

Save your heartache and install the GOG version... I fought for weeks with Steam's version, and I still couldn't get it running. One time through this video after installing the GOG version, and we're good to go! Thank you!!!

The only things I would add are that you can use FOMM as your mod manager, but you need to have a fairly good idea about how to set up your load order because auto-sorting will cause havoc if it works at all. And the UUF3P will break some older mods so if you want to play with a mod that doesn't work with the later versions you may have to drop that mod or use an earlier version of the patch.

Thx You LoneVaultWanderer for that, i noticed that the animations were a little bit faster after i installed Tick Fix (npc mouth talking animation were stoping before the end of the speech), it can be fixed by going to the nvidia control panel (in 3d parameters) and limit the max fps (100 is ok for me), now it's perfectly synchronized.

In the description of "Fallout Anniversary Patcher" it states: "Start the game in any preferred way - through Steam, GOG, the launcher, or any mod manager, but don't use fose_loader.exe. Forget it exists, it's safe to delete it." But in this video you tell us to do the opposite?

This is currently outdated. Upon opening the game 2 errors pop up in game. That command extender cannot be detected or is outdated, and that FOSE also cannot be detected or is outdated. There are a TON of complaints about this online. Any ideas for a workaround?

I did every step in the video and on every tutorial on each mod page but when I boot up the game it still thinks it is The updated version of Fallout 3 and it is telling me I dont have FOSE and Command Extender even tho I very much have them. It is giving me such a headache that my excitement for playing the game has pretty much died off. Thank you Steam for the stupid update that ruined the game.

Thank you for this guide! I ran into some issues getting Fallout 3 to run properly though. But it was an issue with my system and not an issue with your advice. Hopefully my 8 hour hair-puller ordeal can help someone facing the same issue. No matter what, after pressing new game, the loading wheel would get "stuck", cut abruptly to a black screen, then the into movie would play but with no sound, then once the game loads up to the birth sequence all I got was a slideshow (game ran but at 1 FPS). This happened with a fresh vanilla install, regardless of FPS caps, Vsync settings, Gsync settings, Nvidia Control Panel settings, and with all the essential mods like the Anniversary Patcher, OneTweak, TickFix, etc. TL;DR: Fix Fallout 3 New Game Loading Screen Wheel Freeze and CTD Install the proper sound drivers from your motherboard manufacturer's website instead of the default Windows sound drivers. K-Lite Codec Pack Full recommended as well. If you are running an integrated GPU, try the Intel HD graphics Bypass package from Nexusmods. All research led me to the Intel HD graphics Bypass package since Fallout 3 seems to bug out very similarly in the scenario that mod fixes, except it's a CTD after the loading wheel gets stuck instead of a slideshow like with my system. The Intel HD graphics Bypass package did not work for me since I run a dedicated GPU (3080ti). The fix for my system, was to check my audio drivers, and install the proper drivers from my motherboard manufacturer's website (X370 Gaming Pro Carbon for me). Fallout 3 and New Vegas HATED the default sound driver Windows installed when setting up my PC. I also installed K-Lite Codec Pack Full after doing this. This fixed my problem and the game now runs as this guide intended.

Someone a few years ago advised me to just take the plunge and use MO2, and tbh I'm really glad I did. It isn't that complicated at heart and it is really convenient to use once you get the hang of it.

Vortex works well with certain games, and it's so easy to use, awesome mod manager. However, the reason it's hated by many, is that about half the titles it says it supports, it does not in fact properly mod the games. Like Vortex is great for sorting mods into specific folders, games that are simple that just have a single override folder or something like that. The issue for me is that Vortex cannot mod many of the games it says are supported, and that just sucks, the creators need to fix it, or remove the games it cannot properly mod. Then people would cease to hate it. I mean, doesn't that make sense? I truly hope it works for the Xbox game pass version of fallout 3. Cuz I have low confidence, and it's where most people I know playing fallout 3, NV, 4, are playing. All on GP

Honestly Mod Organizer 2 is the best for Bethesda games the only downside is if you crash and restart the computer while it's open your plugin load order will scramble completely out of order, so it's advised to run in windowed mode

To be honest I think its completely ridiculous that Fallout 3 GOTY edition on steam literally *will not* run without mod fixes. I know Bethesda is renowned for having buggy games and you expect it to a certain extent, but to need to install a mod to get the game to even launch is just absurd. I know they will likely never fix any of this, but I just had to vent. I needed to install two seperate mods just to get the game to launch. Rant aside, this is a very useful guide, thank you.

Hello! I'm new to modding and PC gaming in general. I noticed that the tick fix mod messed up the lip syncing in the game. I googled the issue and someone told me to change the ifpsclamp setting in the fallout.ini file to my refresh rate. I did that and the issue persisted. It only stopped when i disabled the tick fix in vortex. Is there something I'm missing/did I install it wrongly somehow? Anyone's help here would be greatly appreciated. I would ideally like to have both the tick fix mod and have the lip syncing be consistent with the dialogue being spoken if that is at all possible. If you can word your answer like you're speaking to a five year old that would help. Like I said, I am VERY new to modding and PC gaming. Thanks!

Downloading, installing RESHADE and then setting it up how you like is the cherry on top! For example you can correct the color temperature and so remove that yellow tone from the image. But it takes some time and Reshade is also really addicting. : D

I've been playing the vanilla, steam version on Windows 11. Runs fine on my my integrated graphics, on my Ryzen 7600x surprisingly (1600x900, medium shadows, max LOD, ~45fps) . It'll crash either every two or 4 hours of gameplay, which I'm honestly fine with. Pretty tolerable for me.

IMO the best way to stabilize Fallout 3 is installing NVAC Anticrash it's a plugin for FOSE and NVSE(xNVSE). In my case all these mods did the job but NVAC released me from crashes.

I tried doing everything as instructed for FOSE to work, even with the downgrade patcher & the VC_redist.x64, it still doesn't want to play ball. I installed Fallout 3 GOTY Edition to see if it that would work but I still get the same issue. I've spent the last 6 hours from this comment looking online, on Reddit, going through everything over and over again and nothing seems to work. Can't install FO3 Wanderers Edition (FWE) with Vortex. It's probably the most popular mod for FO3. So be aware of that. I haven't figured out how to install it manually.

if you are using a mod manager such as MO2, youll have to adjust the directory to launch the game by the fallout 3 launcher instead of the fallout3.exe file it works the same
