@@noahdashiells8488 I would say riding the board is a beginner trick because it is the absolute foundation of skateboarding, while an ollie is fundamental for learning basically any other trick in street skateboarding. You're not wrong because both are fundamental in skateboarding progression. All I'm saying is that you can learn hundreds of other tricks and variations before even understanding the concept of an ollie. Be it shove it variations like nollie or switch progressing to big spins, pressure flip variations (probably inward heel or pressure hardflip first) or even no comply tricks. You could spend hundreds of hours just dropping in and going on to learn transition eventually being able to learn hundreds of grinds or air variations.

Dancing has always been part of longboarding since the 2007-2011 boom. People just never take the time to get interested in all the different ways the community uses their many shape and size boards/ trucks/ wheels to maximize different capabilities. There's also huge Tech slide, Dancing and Long Distance Push communities in NYC especially and across the country as well. Plus downhill, downhill slalom, and freeride skaters still very active as well, many of them now testing the speed, cornering, and trick capacites of boards short enough to barely be considered longboards at all these days. Shorter boards are more popular in longboarding now, and wider boards coming back in shortboarding. The lines are being broken and blurred, hopefully soon all of it will just be called simply "skateboarding". #togetherness #unity #weareone #weareallskaters

This was a weird experience for me. I've definitely been longboarding longer than traditional skateboarding, so it was a little weird to see someone so much better at skating struggle with the same tricks I used to. Especially the tiger claw. (pro tip: wear gloves so you don't shred your thumb) Thanks for shedding some light on the scene. I'd love to see you learn how to cross step! I tried skateboarding growing up, but could never really get it down. I would ride around with my friends. But when they were all learning a 360 flip, I was still learning to Ollie. After a year I gave up on tricks, and just became the camera man, which was still fun. Then after graduating I moved to Key West(about 12 years ago), and a lot of people longboarded there. I fell in love almost instantly. Been riding them since. It's really awesome to see how big it's getting. I remember when board dancing was first becoming popular online with an old YT channel Adam and Adam, who made explanations for beginners, and created a lot of the tricks people do now. And now there's more companies making them, people are getting sponsored, and while not super popular still, it's become a lot bigger over the years.

@@PHeMoX I mean, the company Bustin' is in New York. I think it has to do with the ebb and flow of skating popularity. Also, it's harder to ollie up curbs on a longboard unless you have one suited for it specifically. I'd guess it has to do with applications of a skateboard towards transportation.

@@stills2399 True, but there are a lot of ways dealing with going up curbs. I don't know anyone who gets stopped by that, even on just electric skateboards that can't really ollie either. On most longboards you can do no-complies up curbs or do the kick-the-tail-and-bounce onto the curb with weight on the front truck. The real reason you probably don't see them a lot, is you'd need a pretty open space? It could be more of a coastal area thing.

John! Take a look around for a youtube series call Trick Tips With Adam and Adam. Adam Colton and Adam Stokowski basically defined modern longboard dancing while they were riding for Longboard Larry, a small one-man outfit and an awesome dude. After a while they moved over to ride for Loaded and developed what's now the common dancer longboard shape (the style you have). Nowadays people are integrating a lot more street moves, especially more old-school stuff like boneless fingerflip variations, but if you're curious about the origins of that style of riding that series is where it got started. Take it easy!

Nice dude. I like that you dont hate on them like some skateboarders do but you try them yourself. I used to hate them but then i understood that theres no reason to hate on people that are just having fun lol.

Thank you so much for doing this I love watching your skateboard videos I'm mostly a longboarder but skate when I can afford to maintain a skateboard so seeing someone as big as you trying longboarding it means a lot thank you so much I can't even describe how much this means I figured it would be a bashfest on longboarding bit you legit put time and effort into this video and please let me know what you think of doing slides on the blood orange wheels I've been wanting to try them so long now

i love how john doesn't care if its "not real" skateboarding, which anything with wheels and a board is sk8ing, he's just there to have fun and enjoy himself and just do what he loves with a passion. 1 mil soon i hope you reach it and keep killing iiiiiiiiitttt
