Long Crank Time? P0340 (GM Truck)

2 жыл бұрын

Neighbor brought his 2013 Chevy Silverado 2500HD over with a "my starter won't shut off" complaint.
Turns out the issue is a long crank time, and the truck cranks as long as it needs to to start, even the ignition key is released from the "crank" position.
P0340 - Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit fault is present.
Any scopes or parts required?

That scanner is (SWEET) and I'll bet (EXPENSIVE) and I want one... I always learn something new from your case studies. Case in point 1999 Mercedes Ml320 no codes but had a very slight stumble at idle... Cue visual inspection, I noticed black goo running down the bracket that secures the MAP sensor. Problem solved with a new MAP sensor, the plastic potting had melted in the back of the sensor and caused an incorrect MAP reading to the ECM and explained the negative fuel trim readings when the engine was at operating temp. Oh and by the way my wife loves that old Mercedes so I'll keep it running as long as I can 207,000 miles and counting because ... (if she's not happy ain't nobody happy ) Thank you for all that knowledge you pass on to us "back yard " wannabe mechanics

People get confused about what a no hold starter is. A no hold starter allows you to flip the key release and the starter will continue to crank until the engine starts or 30 seconds elapses which ever comes first to prevent overheating of starter circuits This feature prevents the starter from being held in the crank position after the engine has started reducing damage to the starter / flywheel gear teeth

Exactlyy on the visual inspection first ... 4 decades in Aerospace QA and I'd guess 90% of faults were found "Visually". As for "Rodents" chewing wires, have the same issue over here in the French Riviera at my place on my C6 Z06 Vette ... they like to crawl up on the fuel rail to each Acorns and also nest in the Cabin Filter ... so far, no wires chewed but not taking chances. So bought some Cotton Balls and a few drops of "Peppermint Oil" (they detest it) and on the Cabin Filter I had to replace ... but no more nesting. You do have to continue to add more drops to the Cotton Balls/Filter (weekly) but it def works Bro !!! "Humans" are not as particular ... the Cabin Filter with Peppermint is quite nice actually. A bottle costs like $8 so cheap insurance. Happy New Year ... love your vids !!!

There really isn't much to explain. I have the ThinkDiag mini blue tooth scanner. You go into the module like he showed and input the limits. He was using a TPMS tool for the tire relearn, but most cars can be done manually by letting air out of the stem for about 5 seconds. The horn will beep, then you move to the next tire.
