A short socket rather that a long one works better, gives more grip Great video.

I love the long video!! Helps us (me) non-gear heads save hundreds by not going to the dealer!! Question: I've read elsewhere that you need to "flush" the rear diff with oil before adding the final oil? Can you advise please?

Becky Leetch thanks for watching and commenting by the way... really makes my day

+Becky Leetch so sorry after rereading your comment I realized I made a mistake. You can flush the diff with oil if you like and it's probably recommended. But in my opinion I think you only need to do that if your only going to want to spend a little more money and time. I haven't personally done it myself and I have a little over 300k miles. I just made sure to clean everything with a lint free paper towel and if you like, spray the gears with the rear diff oil until it drains clean.

I havent changed my differential fluid yet. But it doesnt seem very smart to put the gaskt maker around just the outside of the bolt holes. Your bolts may loosen over time and can leak out of the drill holes. Small possibility but why take the chance. Id say go around the inside of the bolt holes.
@LanceB7 жыл бұрын
87greengolfer by all means brother, you can do that if you wish. My jeep is pushing 350k and I never had a leak. Besides I change my diff fluid twice a year so I get a chance to inspect more often than most people.

Thank you for the video Lance. Very informative.

I brought my Jeep new with zero miles. It's also 2006. I have 180k. So far, I replaced A/C compressor, and water pump. Besides window regulators, and radiator, I didn't have any major problems. I'm planning to keep my vehicle as long as I can. I was just wondering what other problem you encounter to get to 350k. Do you still own your Jeep?
@LanceB7 жыл бұрын
George Zhanel honestly the same exact things. But it's to be expected, nothing major... jeep still going strong

Looks like you didn't need to change it. It still looks pretty clear and light colored.

Why not use a gasket? Fel-Pro RDS55047 or Mahle P18564.

Couldn't you just suck out the fluid from the fill bole?
@LanceB7 жыл бұрын
+Daniel Pettis absolutely you can. I decided to clean out the fine shaved metals and inspect the gears for damage. This video is intended for people wanting to do a full drain and fill job. Thank you for watching!
