Good video. I noticed one little problem. You only jacked up the front. Now, that is good for taking out the old fluid; that will help drain as much of it as possible. When refilling, you might want to jack up the rear end the same height so it is level when you refill it and you are not under filling it. I had to do all of that when I did a drive line service on my brother's 2005 VUE.

That's an interesting observation. The slope of the garage floor would have a similar effect. I don't believe it's enough to be concerned with the fill level for this particular application. It is however something to consider if you work outside in the driveway which will typically have a much greater slope than the garage floor. In fact, I aways put vehicles inside the garage to check the oil and transmission fluid levels because of that. Good point and great comment! Thanks!!

I came here to find out where the transfer case is. Since this is my first 4x4 I've never had any dealings with one before.
@midwestsynthetic
@midwestsynthetic 4 жыл бұрын
Welcome! On this Jeep, the transfer case goes on the back of the transmission so you can have a second driveshaft going to the front wheels. Some add a low range and an internal differential for full-time 4X4. Other vehicles that are typically front wheel drive will add the transfer case to send power to the rear wheels, and are often called the Power Transfer Unit (PTU). Most are easy to do a fluid change maintenance, and all are expensive to replace. Thanks for the comment and good luck with your 4X4!

Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment! AMSOIL Signature Series Multi-Vehicle Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid meets the Chrysler ATF+4 specification, and many others. Filled to the bottom of the fill plug whole is basically running over. Thanks!!

I think my transfer case is going bad. Would you suggest servicing it first before buy new/used one?
@midwestsynthetic
@midwestsynthetic 5 жыл бұрын
Well, it's easy to do and just takes a few quarts of fluid. However, if your transfer case is already going out it wouldn't fix anything. Good Luck!!

How about some Teflon tape for sealant on the lower plug?
@midwestsynthetic
@midwestsynthetic Жыл бұрын
For a tapered plug that should be OK but I would always use an automotive sealant if available. Save the teflon tape for the shop air fittings.
@jrsavoie
@jrsavoie Жыл бұрын
@@midwestsynthetic it helps when you want to take the plug back out. I've always used Teflon, dope and a torque wrench. Unfortunately, I had a shop check the fluid after the last oil change, no Teflon, no dope & probably no torque wrench = stuck plug. You always want something on a steel plug in an aluminum housing. Dissimilar metals don't play well

What is a rear transfer case cover 2004 keep liberty?
@midwestsynthetic
@midwestsynthetic 3 жыл бұрын
The transfer case has a drain plug and fill plug, no cover. It's in the middle of the vehicle on the back of the transmission and splits the power for a second driveshaft going forward to the front differential. The rear differential has a cover plate that needs to be removed to drain the fluid. The front differential has a drain plug, so you don't need to remove the cover on that. Hope that helps!

Why didn’t you put the correct oil in (ATF+4) and second tell us what the drain plug torque spec actually is ? You had to set the wrench why not tell us what the spec is in case ppl don’t have a manual?
@midwestsynthetic
@midwestsynthetic 5 жыл бұрын
It’s good to have a manual or other resources with specifications and products specific to your equipment. The torque spec on this transfer case is 20 ft lbs. for both the fill and drain plugs. AMSOIL Signature Series ATF meets the ATF+4 spec, and a lot of others. It also meets the Ford spec for my 2008 F-150 so one product is good for the transmission, transfer case and power in steering in my F-150 and Jeeps. The links in the description to the video will take you to the AMSOIL site for product specifications. There’s also a vehicle lookup guide to find AMSOIL products for your particular vehicle. Thanks for the comment!

MidwestSynthetic yes it may meet minimum standards, however the 2 lubricant ‘s don’t share the same additive package and that is where the difference lies. Chrysler is quite adamant about not using universal oils ..and actually so are most Transmission specialist..I will tell you that I have a Jeep Liberty that still looks and runs like brand new .. doesn’t leak a drop or burn a drop of fluid be it trans or engine .. I have 244K miles on it and wouldn’t trade it for a new one .. because I follow Chrysler recommended fluids and service intervals implicitly.. which I believe has lead to such service life of my Jeep.. my wife’s Jeep only has 159K on it but the same goes for that.. better to recommend what the OEM calls for than give a opinion based upon your personal preference..

AMSOIL Signature Series ATF is engineered to meet the application specs. I’ve been very satisfied with all the AMSOIL products used. Proper lube changes are the easiest way to get many years of service out of your equipment, and an automatic transmission is certainly a component you want to get lots of life from. It sounds like you’re taking good care of the Liberty(s). That’s great! These are great vehicles, easy to work on, lots of utility, and get around good all winter. And a real spare tire that’s reachable when you need it (on the KJ’s). Thanks for the comment!
