For everyone puzzled about why Ray appears to be putting the old “front shocks” back in the car, he’s not. Those are McPherson strut cartridges - you replace the inner portion, retaining the outer bodies from the manufacturer. The guts are new.

My wife unit and I have a 2000 Excursion Limited 7.3L PowerStroke Diesel engine with over 225K on the odometer. We sunk in over $7k 2 years ago, fixing a lot of the engine issues. Now, we have suspension to be repaired, i.e., shocks, tie rods, center link, steering parts, bushings, and brakes to replace. All in all, another $3.5k in parts, plus alignment. Some more engine repairs are needed, but that has to wait until next year, when funds are available. Everybtime I go out and work on our beast. I use your phrases, "Everything is a hammer" and "Make it shiny" with cans of brake clean and foaming degreaser. Old 7.3L are inherently dirty. Love your videos, and Wife Unit's, as I watch 2 to 3 of them a day 😊!

Ray, when you spoke of the deterioration of the rubber bushing due to age and low use, how correct you were. I purchased my 2013 Mustang convertible in Nov 2018. The prior owner was an 87 yo woman who traded the Mustang in for brand new A3 convertible with Quattro, It seems that she had been involved with a small accident with the Mustang one winter sliding off her driveway. There is a small dent in the passenger door that is not noticeable. Her children would not allow her to drive the vehicle so it sat in her garage unused for 5 years. The pre-purchase inspection revealed that ALL rubber bushings etc had to be replaced. The selling dealer had have all the repair work done. I have owned the vehicle for 5 yrs and have not had any issues at all. Ray, you are one of a kind. Please extend my greetings to Lauren.

I liked you video, I know as a retired GM Master tech focused on brakes, steering, suspension you are showing me the same old stuff. It is nice to watch someone else do it! Here is my suggestion! As a mechanic I really did not like charging customers to do small minor stuff they could have done themselves, but as you know a Dealership lets very little go free. You might have your (wife unit) or someone else consider making short videos on simple repairs the DIY's can do. Start with air filters, cabin filters, turn signal bulbs or taillight assemblies, Head lights and/or assemblies. You might also add in how to check engine oil level, transmission fluid, tire pressure and/or sensors, coolant level. Most of these are very time consuming, even irritating repairs for a mechanic, but they put "fear" in customers. Take the fear away and show them just how simple some of this is. A friend of mine told me that the staff at the Auto Parts stores were being paid to replace fuses, wiper blades, check batteries, check tires and lights! I explained to her "NO they are not". Maybe wiper blades {which I hate} and the battery. Just a suggestion to add something different and extra to you mix.

There are DIY channels (like ChrisFix for one) but they don’t use the lift, which makes what he is doing much easier to see. There’s only so many hours in a day. Probably just films whatever job he is working on at the time. The basics get covered in the mix. When he was working at the previous shop he had like four oil change videos one week and clickbait titles to trick people into watching them. It’s the personality that really keeps people watching.

Ray, I notice that you have a number of "Project" cars and Jeeps which you take into your shop. These "Project" cars tend to occupy your lifts as you wait on parts or for other reasons. Just a suggestion, maybe you could have another business just for these "Projects" which could be "Rainman Ray's Auto Restoration." As your car repair business grows these two businesses could complement each other in many ways. Each would need separate sections of a building since the restoration business would need to hold the "Project" jobs longer than the repair business jobs, which would let you turn repair jobs over more quickly. Like this Ford Mustang, owners of these "special" cars would tend to pay more for a complete restoration to make the cars like new again and in some cases making the cars almost concourse ready. All kinds of opportunities await you as your repair business grows and provides you with the necessary funds to branch out. Good luck and keep up the good work and great videos..

Great to see how you can apply learning from what worked out on one side to speed things up on the other side.

I just replaced the rack and pinion on my 94 Camry. Had to drop the frame to get the bugger out. ✌️

Makes you wish you had a blast cabinet for the rusty stuff. Theres a jug of evapo rust you can get to wash them, but things take time the customer may not care about.

Ray as one mechanic to another, I personally believe in torquing all suspension, steering and brake parts. Other than that it’s a perfect video. You obviously found something that works for you!

363rd! GOOD FRIDAY AFTERNOON RAY AND THE WIFE UNIT! And a tip of the hat to the two new employees! This car must have been sitting, and being in a area that has a lot of sea air and salt, corroded everything underneath. Roger in Pierre South Dakota

Obviously, I can’t speak for others, but, yesterdays short coming was not a failure just added realism! To misquote Forest Gump, “it happens” real life doesn’t conform to perfection, and is all the better for it! To put it another way I found it enjoyable to watch and listen to. Thank you Ray!

Ray's showing shade tree mechanics how it's really done, if it's stuck just pry harder or hit it with a hammer. 🤣
